RSF’s 2019 Worldwide Rounduphighlighted the fact that more and more journalists are being targeted specifically due to their line of work and the stories they cover. In this charged political climate, journalists in the United States need additional resources to ensure their safety when covering events that could become dangerous.
The coming 2020 presidential elections will be preceded by many rallies, protests, and campaign events with the potential to become unsafe. It is imperative that journalists have the knowledge and training to report on these events safely and continue to inform the American public.
In addition to the resources currently available in our global RSF network, such as the Digital HelpDesk, RSF USA will be relying on the expertise of our correspondents network across 180 countries many of whom have in-depth experience reporting in similarly fractious political climates. Their expertise will be invaluable in journalist safety programs across the country.
Donate today and your gift will help us develop programming that addresses the safety concerns posed by the current high-temperature political climate and ensure that journalists are appropriately equipped to cover these important events next year.
