TISHOMINGO COUNTY HISTORICAL & GENEALOGICAL
SOCIETY
The rich history of Tishomingo County will not be forgotten, thanks to the efforts of the Tishomingo County Historical and Genealogical Society. The members of the TCHGS work tirelessly to collect and preserve artifacts and stories for future generations.
Their work is on display at the Old Tishomingo County Courthouse Museum, located at 203 East Quitman Street in Iuka. The museum focuses on three themes: Native Americans (Chickasaw), the Civil War, and county-wide cultural heritage.
Throughout the year, the TCHGS hosts events that bring history to life and celebrate the culture of the past and present. Consider the events they have held just since October: a production of Twelve Angry Men, a book signing by Kyle Carpenter, Tinsel and Trees, Comics and WWII, a gingerbread house contest, and month-long spotlight on World War II.
Kyle Carpenter signs a copy of his book You Are Worth It: Building a Life Worth Fighting For.
The TCHGS sponsored a living history exhibit as part of their World War II feature.
They are already gearing up for their next theatrical presentation. Auditions for Witness for the Prosecution will be held January 7, 8, and 9 at the Courthouse Museum. In addition to players for the March production, they are looking for artists to enter their contest. The winner's artwork will be used on the playbills as well as in all advertising for the play, and the winner will receive $200.
The next time you're in Iuka, make sure you stop by the Courthouse Museum and enjoy a look into the past.
Museum hours:
Wednesday - Friday 9:30-4:30
Saturday 9:00-12:00

Thank you to the TCHGS for ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to learn about the people who made Tishomingo County a special place!
