Bowie was found on the streets of Detroit, scavenging for his next meal and barely able to walk. There were concerns that he had been hit by a car and that the damage might be with his spinal cord. We were asked to help and couldn't say no. Our volunteer, Steve Kalko, drove 5 hours to pick him up, and after finally getting him in the car, drove him back to our Springfield Kennel. Bowie wasn't sure about people at first, but quickly learned what love and care means and now is such a love bug. All of our volunteers quickly fell in love with him. The good news from the vet was that Bowie had not been hit by a car but had luxating patellas on both knees, which although costly, could be fixed with surgery. Bowie had his second knee surgery early this month and is recovering very well with our wonderful volunteer, Susan. He is looking forward to being able to walk and run like a normal dog in the upcoming year!
