Cambodia Summary Report
Freshwater ecosystems all over the world are under increased pressure due to climate change. Interviews conducted by the School for Field Studies, a Climate Crowd partner, demonstrate the growing impact that a longer dry season, hotter weather and other stressors are having on fish stocks in the Tonlé Sap and the people that rely on them. Though climate change has wreaked havoc on much of the world, this story submitted by one of our partners offers a rare instance where extreme weather, an unusual snow event in Mexico, struck awe and even delight among local people. Scientists suggest a warmer climate may weaken the polar vortex, allowing cold air to break out in winter months reaching farther south into North America, meaning events like these could happen more often. Locals are careful to add, however, that conditions on the whole are becoming drier and hotter.
