ISSUE 21

A blessing in disguise.

Hello Lazies.

For the last issue of 2019, I wanted to focus on the Denver Nuggets (and I’m sure there’s at least one lazy that’s going to absolutely love this write up). It’s strange to say, but the Nuggets are probably one team in the NBA, which injuries are considered a good thing.

Denver’s roster is overflowing with medium-to-high talent, and choosing just five players to perform at one time can be challenging, especially when you want to develop your young core or give others more game time. With the recent injuries to Gary Harris and Paul Millsap, two starters who were out against the Sacramento Kings on Sunday night, this made way for rookie Michael Porter Jr. to get his first career start, and he didn’t disappoint.

Porter scored 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting, with six rebounds and one assist in a super fast 26 minutes. Stats like that show a player who’s ready for their opportunity and didn’t want it to go to waste. Especially for a rookie who’s been on the edge of rotation for a couple of weeks, and it wasn’t until just before the tip-off that Porter got the news that he would be gifted his first professional start.

Besides their stars like Nikola Jokić, or Jamal Murray, every game I watch seems like they pull out a brand new roster every game. But whatever they’re doing, it’s working. They’ve won 9 of their last ten games and currently hold the league’s most efficient offense (117.3 points scored per 100 possessions) over those ten games. The Nuggets have finally found some form, and they’ve caught my attention.

Catch you Thursday.
Ed
