Having learned to knit and crochet at an early age from both of her grandmothers, fiber arts have always been an important part of Debbi's life. Her designs can be found on Ravelry at The Stitches Of My Life Designs where she goes by the name of cockeyed, for obvious reasons. She also collaborates on designs with Marcy Vandale under the label Adventure Du Jour Designs, all of which can be found on Ravelry as well. Along with designing, Debbi teaches knitting and technology classes at local yarn shops in the Portland area. She also has partnered with Stephanie Pearl-McPhee and co-hosts the 3 Strung Along knitting/spinning retreats each year held at The Resort at Port Ludlow in Port Ludlow, Washington where she teaches as well.
Introducing Our Charity Project: Butterfly Boxes
The guild’s chosen charity knitting project for 2020 is in collaboration with Butterfly Boxes. This organization, started by Puddletown member Adrienne and her sister-in-law, helps established community members welcome refugees to Oregon. These newest of Oregonians come from around the globe and often arrive with few of the basic necessities or home comforts we take for granted. Butterfly Boxes seeks to bridge that gap with airport welcome bags, made by volunteers and delivered to the airport by their partners at Catholic Charities. These bags are filled with basic necessities like toiletries and towels, comfort items like stuffed animals and dolls, and organizational tools like calendars and folders to help settle into life in Oregon.
Puddletown Knitters Guild has set a goal of making 200 stuffies and dolls for the children of refugees in 2020. They should be huggable and washable. Safety concerns are low as the volunteers can direct items with choking hazards to older children. Keep in mind that most of the refugees are people of color, and dolls' skin tones should reflect their image.
Knit, crochet, sew, whatever craft speaks to you--just do it with love. Bring finished projects to each meeting, show them off, and hand them in for a ticket in a special raffle at the end of the year.
If you'd like to be more involved with programming, special events, or administration within the Guild, we're looking for members to help sustain and grow our Board over the coming years.

Destash Brunch Party!
What: Puddletown's Second Annual Brunch and Destash party! Hosted by the intrepid and dynamic Emme Von (see her hints below for selling)
When: Saturday, January 18th from 8:30 a.m. - 12 noon
Where: Our regular meeting place, 2620 NE Fremont St.
Bring: A breakfast goodie to share. Puddletown will provide coffee, tea, and juice!
Sellers
If you plan on selling, you MUST arrive by 8:30 a.m. to set up your table and chairs. Once you leave you MUST put away table/chairs. Sharing a table with a friend is a good idea. Sellers arriving after 8:30 a.m. will not be allowed to set up (though, you're welcome to buy and enjoy brunch).
Buyers
Doors open at 9:00 a.m. The event will end at 11:30 a.m. (or after you've spent your wad).
Payment
The buyer and seller agree on payment method. In general, cash or check is preferred but some sellers may accept other forms of payment such as PayPal, Venmo, or Square. To be sure, cash is always a good choice!!!
How to Sell Yarn and Materials

The most important tip is to make your items look pretty. Remember to tuck in any loose ends, and straighten any tags. When shopping for used yarn, all retail rules apply! Make sure all of your yarn and tools are visibly priced as well!
If the yarn is wound: You can certainly re-cake it for aesthetics! Place it in bags. Keep the ball band visible in any plastic storage bags.
If the yarn is in a skein: Keep it lined up in the same direction (all the yarn butts down, preferably!) and tuck in any loose ties or ends. If it is in a plastic bag, make sure the labels are all facing the same direction.
If you're keeping single skeins unbagged, make sure they're neat with no errant ties or super floppy hang tags.
For non-yarn: Make sure any equipment is dust-free, needles are labelled with the correct size, and project bags are clean (you can even press them for presentation and stuff with paper so people can visualize their own projects in them!). Books and non-PDF patterns can be sold as well.

Jennifer Berg: Keeping My Culture Alive Through Knit Design
We are so excited to announce that we will host Jennifer Berg
on Friday, April 17th and Saturday, April 18th.
If you follow Ravelry's Hot Right Now or emerging designers on social media you probably know Jen's work (if not, go follow @native.knitter on Instagram right now!).
Jen's presentation is titled "Keeping My Culture Alive Through Knit Design." We will be able to share more details about her presentation in the weeks to come, but want you to save the dates now.
In anticipation of Jen's visit to Portland, Kim Winter and The Knotty Lamb will offer a colorwork class featuring one of Jen's designs — The Sunset Mesa Cowl. The class will be on January 8 and 15. Register for the class on the website.

Conscious Conversations
This is a time set aside for knitters and crocheters to discuss current social justice issues in the community. Those who are engaged in social media, who use Ravelry, who go to yarn shops, or who just want to chat and listen, can share thoughts, feelings, and experiences.
