We did so much together!

As 2019 comes to an end, we wanted to take some time to reflect on some of the highlights of our year. This year we continued to accompany each other. We laughed, we mourned, we were angry and hopeful, and worried as we came together.

We know there are so many more stories to tell about 2019. We loved hearing some of your highlights at our last quarterly gathering in December and we hope to see you at our next quarterly gathering around the state to hear more.

Advocacy Day

Approximately 250 of us went to the Capitol to advocate for driver licenses for all, case management for refugees, a deportation defense fund, and an update to the hate crimes law. All bills we advocated for passed!

Quarterly Gatherings

We began gathering in 10 counties around the state every quarter. The drives are always fun and it gives us a space to be in community and think together. Maybe we should begin a road trip playlist in 2020?
Circle of Protection

In August, we gathered together at the Washington County courthouse to ask the Oregon Supreme Court Chief Justice to issue a ruling that prevents ICE from arresting people in and around courthouses.

Courthouse rule hearing

People all around the state sent comments to the UTCR committee to prevent ICE from arresting people in courthouses. The majority of the comments came from our IMIrJ community!
Courthouse Pictures

IMIrJ leaders around the state took pictures in front of their local courthouses. These pictures were shared with the Supreme Court Chief Justice and the Uniform Trial Court Rules (UTCR) committee in support of preventing ICE arrests in courthouses.

Celebrating the courthouse rule

We did it! This fall, the Supreme Court Chief Justice issued a rule preventing ICE from arresting people in and around courthouses without a warrant. This is the third rule of its kind in the country and the most expansive one.

Continue to sustain our work in 2020 with a donation before the end of the year
