A Note from Dan, Lead Pastor
LCC update - January
And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”
- Isaiah 6:8 (ESV)
New decade…New opportunities!
In 2000, Allen and Trish Sowers were living the American dream. Allen was a successful home builder in the Washington D.C. area. They had all the comforts of an American life and were about to build their dream home. But something was unsettling inside them. Is this it? Is this what we want our lives to be about?
In 2001, the Sowers left everything for the mountains of Western Honduras. There they established Sowers4Pastors and began serving the people of Honduras. For almost 2 decades they have brought the gospel to Honduras--training Honduran pastors to start churches, assisting in providing transportation for these pastors, building churches and bridges, developing feeding centers, providing opportunities for medical care, establishing backpacks for schools and employing the Honduran people through coffee farms.
That decision 20 years ago would radically impact their lives and the kingdom forever. In late February, I get to join others on a trip to Honduras - to pass out backpacks and continue to explore ways we can continue to come alongside the Sowers to live out God’s mission. I’m so excited to see the work bring done in His name! In July, a much larger team from LCC will head down to serve. I hope you can be a part of it!
Each of us stands before a new decade with a decision. What will our lives be about? Will we listen and respond to God’s direction? If we will, 2020 will bring new opportunities to enter into God’s work--to choose life in community with others, to sharpen our witness, to use our hands to serve the needs of our community. Not every decision will be a career changing adventure out of the country. But every decision matters. Will we invest in God’s kingdom?
I’m excited to see where He takes us as we together build this body and His kingdom!
In Him,
Dan
