Partner Announcement

Aloha Kākou,

Our partners at the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife shared the following announcement that may be of interest to those subscribed to the HISC email list:

The Draft Environmental Assessment (DEA) for the proposed release of a biological control for the invasive Erythrina Gall Wasp (Quadrastichus erythrinae) was published on December 23, 2019 by the Department of Health’s Office of Environmental Quality Control (OEQC). The Erythrina Gall Wasp (EGW) is a non-native pest species that has attacked and quickly killed hundreds of Erythrina spp. trees in Hawaiʻi including the native wiliwili, Erythrina sandwicensis. The Hawaiʻi Department of Agriculture, with support from the Hawaiʻi Department of Land and Natural Resources, is proposing the release of a eulophid ectoparasitoid, Aprostocetus nitens, to complement Eurytoma erythrinae for biocontrol of EGW.

Please submit any questions or comments on the DEA by January 22, 2020 through the online form, by email to kylee.k.wideman@hawaii.gov, or by mail to:
