Note from our Principal

Upper School Families,

Happy New Year to each of you, I hope you and your families have enjoyed our winter break. I am very excited to see our students return to school and look forward to catching up to hear about their time off.  I am including a few reminders and some updates that may impact your child's day tomorrow, please take time to share this with them.

Please remember that Open Enrollment for our school began today, January 1st.  You are our best way to advertise our school. We will be hosting several Open House events for families who are considering attending our school.  Please let them know that https://www.icimagine.org/enrollment/ is where they go to get into the lottery.

A note of congratulations to Mr. Kinnaird, who received word that he earned his National Board Teaching Certification over the break.  This is a high honor in our field and one that is very difficult to achieve! Please congratulate him on this outstanding accomplishment!

During our time off we had our floors replaced due to a warranty issue during initial installation and our Performing Arts Center now has seats!

We are still getting used to the heating system in our building and the temperature can vary depending on where your child's classes are. Please be sure they arrive with layers that allow for them to stay in uniform while remaining comfortable.  This means that they should be wearing a polo or button-down shirt underneath any spirit wear hoodie they have on. For a refresher on our required attire please visit http://www.icimagine.org/required-attire/.

We are delighted to announce that both Mrs. Kendrick and Mrs. Mitchell are now home with their healthy newborn babies and will be out on maternity leave.

Mrs. Ski will be in for Mrs. Kendrick, she began prior to leaving for break and was at school the other day getting things ready for the return of her students. Mrs. Ski was an English major in college and graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill (go Tarheels!). After completing her undergraduate degree, she taught English for five years at St. Benedict’s High School in Memphis, TN while her husband attended graduate school in the city. While at St. Benedict, she primarily taught World Literature to 9th graders, British Literature to 11th graders, and AP Language and Composition to upperclassmen/women. She is returning to the classroom after being home with her three children for the past several years.  She is very familiar with our school, spending time as a parent, volunteer, and instructional assistant. Please email her, maryskierczynski@icimagine.org, with any questions pertaining to Mrs. Kendrick's classes.

Ms. Neuhauser is in for Mrs. Mitchell. She will be officially be joining us on January 13th, after finishing her previous contract.  She will be at school on Thursday to meet the students and become acquainted with our school. Ms. Neuhauser attended Elon University as a North Carolina Teaching fellow and Noyce Scholar. During her four years at Elon, she studied abroad in London, England, and worked several teaching internships. After graduating, she worked abroad at Folkestone Academy in Folkestone, England, where she taught two years. She then returned home to teach at a local high school.  When not coaching soccer or teaching, Ms. Neuhauser spends her time working on her new home and with her boyfriend and playing with their puppy!  Please contact her, sarahneuhauser@icimagine.org, with any questions about Mrs. Mitchell's classes.

Mr. Crayton will be teaching all Math 2 and Foundations of Math courses.  He will also be joining us on January 13th, after finishing his contract with his previous employer.  Jeff Crayton is a high school mathematics teacher and has been teaching in the NC public school system since 2007. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with a specialization in Education from Liberty University in 2005 and earned his National Board Certification in 2011. Jeff and his wife Melanye moved back to Asheville in the summer of 2016 where he began teaching at Erwin High School. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with family, traveling (especially to Disney), singing and running sound at his church, Tarheel sports, and cooking.  Please contact him, jeffcrayton@icimagine.org, with any questions pertaining to Math 2 classes.

Mr. Richardson will joining our EC Department as an instructional assistant, primarily in Ms. Cornett's classes. He received his degree from Appalachian State University in Political Science and Global Studies.  Mr. Richardson has worked in a variety of educational settings both in North Carolina and also in Japan!  He loves video games, classic movies, and rock music! Ms. Cornett and Mrs. Honrado have been working hard to prepare the classroom and learning environment for the arrival of our students cannot wait to introduce them to Mr. Richardson!

Please join us in welcoming these new faces to our ImagiNation! 2020 is going to be an amazing year for our school and I cannot wait to spend it with our students.  Looking forward to seeing your smiling faces tomorrow!
