January Tt Mentoring Happenings!
Community Mentors,
Happy New year and Happy National Mentoring Month!
I want to start off the year thanking you all for making our Tt mentoring community so amazing! I feel thankful each day that I am able to help facilitate so many intergenerational relationships - but my work would not be possible without 70 mentor volunteers of all ages stepping up to make a connection to a mentee.

We have a great dinner discussion planned for Thursday January 16th, an invite to participate in our statehouse event on Wednesday January 22nd, and an open invitation to set up a time to meet up this month with me one on one to discuss your relationship with your mentee.

All the details are below, plus some good ideas of what to do this month with your mentee - so keep reading......and call or email with any questions or comments!

Best Wishes in 2020,
Pam

Expanding “The Talk”: Becoming an Askable Adult
Dinner Discussion & Facilitated Conversation
Thursday, January 16th, 2020,
Twinfield Library, 6-8pm

For the youth in our lives today, the development of healthy sexuality and healthy relationships requires more than just “The Talk.” Askable Adults are approachable, authentic sources of support who make space for the young people in their lives to come to them with any question.

Parents, teachers, mentors, and all youth allies are invited to join Jan Lloyd and Lucy Schmid of the Sexual Assault Crisis team of Washington County in collaboration with Twinfield Together Mentoring program for dinner and a facilitated discussion to explore questions such as:

  • How do we listen empathetically and respond with respect?
  • How do we hold our own values, stories, and biases with awareness?
  • How can we navigate our own boundaries while being present with another person’s process?

No matter our level of confidence and finesse in creating open dialogue channels with youth, there is much we can learn from one another! Bring your experiences and scenarios to the table--successful conversations, moments that caught you off guard, topics about which you seek to develop your knowledge or skill.

RSVP appreciated (but not required) so we can plan for adequate food

Mentor Vermont
National Mentor Month celebration

Wednesday January 22, 2020
Capitol Plaza Hotel & Statehouse
9:30-1:30
This annual event brings together youth mentees, mentors, legislators, and supporters to officially mark January as Mentoring Month in Vermont, and recognize the 2,300 mentor and mentee matches from across the state. The Celebration will start at the Capitol Plaza hotel with hands on activities that celebrate mentoring in our state, and lunch from the hotel. We will then walk to the Statehouse for the reading of the Mentoring Month Resolution in the House Chambers.

This is an event for mentors and mentees to attend if the mentor is available. If you would like to join the small group of Tt pairs going, please reach out as soon as possible so I can coordinate the mentee missing school for the day. You can come to some or all of the day. Call or email me if you are interested or want to find out more information.

Reporting your time!

I love to share what you are doing with others....so thanks for sharing!
There are three options here.
  1. Enter it into the civicorps database
  2. Send me an email with each date, how long you were together, and just 1 sentence about what you did (you can tell me more but all I need is one sentence).
  3. Call me on the phone with your calendar in hand. We can talk about what you did, and I can help you work through any situations that have come up for you in the past few months.
I am happy with any of these options, so thanks for letting me know what works best for you!
Thanks again for taking the time
