Our maintenance closure over January was successful and it was wonderful to reopen to the public in February after a very busy December; BRAC thanks researchers for their patience while we undertook this very important work.

Changes to North Melbourne Reading Room
PROV have made a number of changes to their Reading Room access policy, many of which will impact regional and rural researchers - please be sure to review these changes HERE before visiting the North Melbourne repository. These changes do not affect BRAC operations.

Intentional Women's Day 2020
To celebrate IWD in 2020, BRAC have put together a short online exhibition to recognise some of the amazing ladies who have lived, schooled or worked in Bendigo over time. Using a Blue Plaque approach, it locates these women on the Bendigo map, and is accompanied by a brief description of their achievements; our hope is that it will inspire more research into their lives. It will be available HERE on our website from March 11.

Discovering History Lectures
We had another packed house for the first Discovering History lecture of the year when James Lerk presented Source of the Sauce. Back in the library, these lectures are a partnership between BRAC, GLC and La Trobe, and take place on the first Thursday of the month - see the upcoming schedule HERE or on our Facebook page.

Collection Focus: Town Clerk Letter Books
BRAC holds Town Clerk Letter Books for a number of Shires, including City of Sandhurst-Bendigo. These books contain copies of all letters sent from the Town Clerk's office, by chronology, and can often be used in conjunction with the Inward Correspondence records to track a conversation back and forth. You can order items from the Sandhurst series to the Reading Room HERE.

Loddon in the Archives
In February, BRAC were part of a wider Bendigo Library tour for residents of the Loddon area interested in researching the local history for that district. It was a great opportunity for patrons to learn about our collection of records from the region - you can find them too (and links to some digitised records) in our web catalogue HERE, which lists the agency responsible for each record set to make it easy to find relevant series.
