tonight's pick-me-ups

Things we're doing to unwind and get cozy before bed tonight:

📚 Stacking up the style. There's plenty of new reads to get through in 2020, so prep the bookshelves using this style guide that has tips on the best way to store, coordinate with collectibles, and optimize the white space.

🍲
Meal prepping *the* Ina Garten's all-time favorite soup, Italian wedding soup. Think if chicken noodle soup had a glow up with rich broth, fresh spinach, and chicken meatball. Btw store bought is still fine.

🧣 Wearing leggings to the office. Stay cozy in style with the right accessories and
other simple ways to make your outfit look more expensive.

👑 Putting ourselves first
aka Meghan Markling. "Meghan Markle, a verb, past tense - Meghan Markled: to value yourself and your mental health enough to up and leave a room/situation/environment in which your authentic self is not welcomed or wanted.”

Reads when you're up late anyway. Here are tonight's round-up for every occasion:

CULTURE  For when the new year festivities continue ~ This is what the Year of the Rat means and how to celebrate it. "This weekend, the Year of the Rat begins. January 25 is the Lunar New Year, aka Chinese New Year. It marks the beginning of the lunisolar Chinese calendar, which is based on the phases of the moon and the sun’s longitude, and has been in use since the 14th century BCE ... Now, the important part: how to celebrate. Chinese New Year is the biggest and most important holiday for Chinese people all around the world. It has always been a time of family reunion.'"

TRENDING  For when you are the woman who can do it all ~ Thanks for a inspo, Dolly. Tbh we've been endlessly scrolling through all versions of the Internet's latest challenge obsession. "It seems like every day, there’s a brand-new challenge running rampant on social media. Remember the ever-so-innocent Mannequin Challenge, where everyone would drop whatever it is they were doing to freeze and strike a pose better than a Forever 21 shop doll in a window? Oh, and how could we forget the extremely concerning and highly dangerous Tide Pod Challenge, in which teens ate ... actual Tide Pods. Okay yeah, that was a terrible one. The past decade was hella weird. The Mannequin and Tide Pod challenges have phased out since then (THANK GOD), making way for a brand-new one to come into our collective consciousness: the Dolly Parton Challenge. Yes, you read that right — Dolly Parton has her own challenge."

WELLNESS  For when Wonder is currently streaming on Prime Video ~ Grab the box of tissues and get ready to let some feelings out. Turns out there's joy to be found in putting ourselves through the emotional roller coaster of a sad movie. "Watching sad movies can be therapeutic, [psychologist Kristina Hallett, Ph.D.] said. It can be a healthy habit when you're looking for a good cry. Hallett equated the experience to listening to sad music or choosing to reminisce over past events or losses. While this method is healthy in moderation, it should not be a person's only strategy for feeling emotions, she said. 'If someone is having a hard time accessing and expressing their emotions, they may want to explore additional methods of introspection and reflection, such as journaling, psychotherapy, or talking openly with a close friend.'"

FUN  For when things are about to get weird ~ Aquarius szn needs no introduction. Make the most of this time to embrace the weird, feel your feels, and get the party going. "Where do you sail along an unconventional orbit? It's time to put your quirkiest ideas and offbeat style on display, and shamelessly. The beautiful paradox of this 'One Love' star sign (an anthem written by Aquarius Bob Marley) is that it governs both community and originality."
