Rob Hopkins at The Space

Tuesday 7th January 2020, from 7pm.

Come and join us in welcoming Rob Hopkins, Transition Town founder at The Space on 7th January. Rob will be talking about his new book that explores ways we can unleash our imagination and dare to dream about a different way of thinking and doing in relation to how we live in the world.

Expect a positive talk full of ideas about how we can all get involved in making the world - and our own communities - a better place, as well as tackling climate change and ecological breakdown. It's a perfect antidote to the January Blues!

Bath Ocean Plastic Day (13 January 2020) is a not for profit education and awareness raising event focused on research, knowledge sharing and business and consumer solutions to the health and environmental problems surrounding single use plastics.

The day will consist of a morning conference for local school pupils, students and home educating families, and an evening event which will be open to the public.

Emily Penn, the woman behind eXXpedition Round-the-World will present a key-note speech. Emily is a skipper, ocean advocate and artist dedicated to studying environmental challenges in the most remote parts of our planet. She will present the latest findings from her transglobal scientific voyages, the objectives of which are to study marine microplastics and toxins as well as celebrate women in STEM. Last year she addressed Presidents, Prime Ministers, Fisheries & Climate Ministers from around the globe at the United Nations General Assembly ‘Sustainable Oceans and the Blue Economy’ event.

Emily will be joined by speakers from City to Sea, local utility company and large Bath based business Wessex Water, clothing brand Finisterre and University of Bath spinout company Naturbeads who will talk about the current state of our oceans, plastic waste, bioplastics myths as well as current research and innovation; providing practical solutions and examples of corporate and individual resolution and action.
