Crafternoon: Air Plant Terrariums

Winter blues getting to you? Maybe it's time to add some green! Join us in making easy terrariums and bring home a new air plant! Air plants do not need soil and are an NYC-grad-student-friendly companion for any sized space. All materials provided while supplies last—come early if you can, this is a popular event!

Stressbusters Training for CUIMC Students

Are you interested in learning neck and back rub techniques from a professional Licensed Massage Therapist? Are you interested in helping to promote positive stress coping strategies among your peers at CUIMC? CSW is looking for students from all schools and programs at CUIMC to be trained as CUIMC Stressbusters. You must complete both Training Part 1 and Training Part 2 to become a Stressbuster. If you aren't able to attend both training sessions, please email us. *Please also note that training session dates and times are subject to change, so please RSVP for updates! Current Stressbusters who would like a refresher are also encouraged to attend one or both training sessions!

First Gen Group

This is a weekly closed process group starting in February, that offers a community for students who identify as the first member in their family to pursue higher education in the US. Conversation topics may include family expectations, generational/cultural differences, fear of failure/disappointment, and financial stressors. Snacks and refreshments will be provided. Interested students should contact Maya Fukuda, LCSW.

Creating Change: New Ways of Relating to Food and Your Body

Are your thoughts centered around food and body image? Do you make choices involving food or exercise that you feel uncertain about? Topics in this group will include coping strategies, mindfulness, self-esteem, body image and relationships. Interested students should contact Heather Holtman, Ed.D for an initial screening.

This monthly semi-structured discussion series is intended for men of color to come together to share their experiences, seek support, and discuss relevant topics affecting their lives. Topics may include: intersectionality, the imposter phenomenon, microaggressions and racial trauma, and navigating professional relationships. Light refreshments will be provided. Interested students should contact Dr. Matt  Poon.

Understanding Self and Others Process Group

Do you feel isolated, anxious around others, or have difficulty making connections on campus? Do you struggle with giving or receiving feedback? Do you feel like you can’t be yourself on campus or in your program? This weekly 60-minute process group offers a space for students to share their experiences, practice offering and receiving interpersonal feedback, and create authentic relationships. Topics may include relationship and family dynamics, identity concerns, academic and work issues, and life-work balance. The group will have three offerings this semester. Living More as Ourselves (LMAO): Improve Comedy for Social Anxiety

Do you become more anxious or self-conscious in social gatherings? Are you critical of or harsh to yourself? Informed by mindfulness and improv comedy principles, this four-week workshop series will help students explore, understand, and navigate social anxiety and critical self-talk through experiential exercises and group activities. Workshops will have two offerings this semester. Interested students should contact Dr. Matt  Poon to schedule a screening.

Sound Bath Meditations
Tuesdays | 12:45pm–1:15pm | MSCH/Pauline A. Hartford Memorial Chapel, Presbyterian Hospital First Floor
Spend 30 minutes listening to sound vibration and restoring your sense of self. Sound baths offer an alternative to traditional meditation by facilitating a shift in your brainwave state. Sounds are created by a wide range of instruments including Himalayan singing bowls, ocean drum, shruti box, chimes and overtone singing. Facilitated by music therapist Miss Hall, MA, LCAT, MT-BC. CUIMC Knits

Wednesdays | 5:00pm–7:00pm | Third Floor Multi-Purpose Room, Tower 2
Always wanted to learn how to knit but not sure where to start? CUIMC Knits is a cozy space for all levels of knitters to connect and practice and learn new knitting techniques. Drop in to work on a new project or bring something you're already working on. Needles, yarn, and instruction provided for beginners! There's no commitment—come as often and stay as long as you'd like. Email Jenn Nguyen to be added to the Knits email list.

Sunshine Crew
Do you hail from the West Coast or another balmier place? New to the concrete jungle? Missing warmer days, bluer skies, and sand between your toes? Snow-curious? Join students from across CUIMC to talk about adjusting and share coping strategies as the seasons change. Sunny snacks and mellow vibes guaranteed. Email us to be included as we continue making plans to meet!
