Your monthly dose of IFSA Updates
Welcome to the IFSA Monthly Newsletter of January 2020 !

Hello IFSA Family!

Wishing you all a very Happy New year!
We hope your holidays were enjoyable and fruitful. From the perspective of a forester, the past year has been an eventful one. Forest fires in the Amazon and in Australia, are contemporary signs of extreme climate change, acting as a clarion call for humans to move towards meaningful action. Greta Thunberg, signifying the youth of today, dared to raise her voice about the intergenerational implications of climate change. Both these only highlight the importance of forests for our survival.

Just as we need to look back, we also need to look forward to important happenings in the coming year. Some of the important events of relevance to foresters include, the G7 Summit scheduled in June 2020, the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) COP 15 in Kunming, China during October. As youth, we need to be aware of current happenings and act accordingly, not only raising our voice but also by taking concerted efforts and action, both at individual level and as society as such.

But hey, exciting events are also happening at IFSA this year! Some of them planned this year include the SERM and NERM in April involving several countries and the IFSS 2020 to be held in Quebèc, Canada during July and August.
Who are your Officials?
'Introducing your officials' -Series :
Simone Massaro
Hello IFSA World, I am Simone Massaro from Italy. I am currently doing my bachelor in forestry in Viterbo at Università della Tuscia. I am IFSA member since a couple of years and I hold the position of Head of the Web Sub-Commission, which means I am in charge of managing the IFSA website and mails. For 2020 my plans are, in order, having a great time, graduating and trying tree climbing.

For IFSA I’d like to continue the work on the new IFSA website, especially focusing on updating content and improving design, and finish the new mail system. A fun fact about me is that besides trees I am also really passionate about computer technology and tech stuff, in fact I also thought to study IT at the university.
