Indigenous Education newsletter for teachers

STEM and Indigenous Ways of Knowing

Dear readers,

Happy 2020! I'm back this month with a new webinar recording for you to view, and one scheduled this month which I hope you can attend live.

Indigenous ways of knowing and STEM

This month, Dr. Restoule and I will be joined by Dhakāle or Hayle Gallup, who is a member of the Tahltan First Nation. She is an Indigenous Support Teacher within School District 61. On January 27th she will share her stories about STEM and Indigenous ways of knowing, using real life examples, images, resources, and video clips. She will also give examples of bringing Place Based Learning to students in a meaningful way.

Hayle's webinar will be taking place at 10pm EST, so if you're usually tucked in for the night by then but have questions, send me an email now and I'll make sure we ask them!

Junior Water Walkers Webinar

In early December Joanne Robertson and Peter Cameron joined us for a webinar to tell us about the Junior Water Walkers program. There are now over 200 classrooms around the world who are developing relationships with local bodies of water, and carrying on the work of Nokomis Josephine Mandamin. You can watch the webinar and find out how you and your students can become Junior Water Walkers by clicking here.

A huge thank you to teacher Bernadine Reeb from Leamington Ontario who first alerted me to the Junior Water Walkers program at the beginning of the school year. Bernadine shared that she is working on a Global Collaborative Goals project with 1000 other teachers worldwide. Her group is working on Goal #4 Quality Education For All. If you are interested to learn more, you can view the lesson she created  on Clean Water and Sanitation HERE. Take care,
Angela

P.S. I'm still on maternity leave! Thank you for your patience and for sticking with Listen and Learn as my regular posting and writing is on hiatus until Spring!

Maternity Leave Reminder

This year, I will again be partnering with Dr. Jean-Paul Restoule who is the Chair of Indigenous Education at the University of Victoria to offer free webinars for educators. You can expect a newsletter each time we promote a new one, and remember you can view all of the webinars we filmed last year on my website for free.

I will continue to scale back my work on additional newsletters until Spring, in order to spend time with my new son. Thank you for your support!

Take care,
Angela
