Weekly News
Dear friends,
This Sunday is the 2nd in Ordinary Time.
In the Gospel reading from John, St John the Baptist proclaims Jesus as the Lamb of God. We are familiar with this imagery from the pretty cards we send at Easter but there is a richer symbolism at work here. In the sacrifice of himself on the cross, Jesus ends the need for the High Priest in the Temple to sacrifice the Passover lamb in order to be in a right relationship with God. On the cross he becomes both the priest and the lamb and his risen body the new temple. In this he makes a New and everlasting Relationship or 'Covenant' between us and God, which we share in and is made present at every mass.
This Saturday marks the beginning of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, prayer cards will be given out at mass and you can find out more by clicking here.
This week's Sundays@11 will be lead by Fr Guy on the subject of Christian Unity.
On the 13th February we begin a series of 8 lunchtime concerts in partnership with the charity AgeUK. I am looking for volunteers to help welcome and serve tea and coffee and also to bake cakes. If you can help at any of these Thursday events then speak to me or sign the sheet at the back of church.
See you on Sunday
Fr James
