THE DIFFERENCE VOLUNTEERS MAKE TO TAYSIDE COUNCIL ON ALCOHOL
Who do you help and in what way? Plusone Mentoring provides an early intervention aimed at supporting and engaging vulnerable young people between the ages of 8 – 14 years who are deemed to be at risk of entering the children’s hearing system/criminal justice system. The project engages with young people and their families at a critical time to divert them away from negative pathways.
Link Up Mentoring provides support for young people aged 8-19 years old, who are marginalised by their communities as a result of their own behaviour, whether that is involvement in substance use or antisocial/ offending behaviour, or that of their family members.
We offer support to young people through the mentoring relationship and hope that this will provide a safe and trusting environment that will encourage the young person to consider their own potential and ability and encourage the growth of their confidence and self-esteem.
What difference do volunteers make to your organisation? All of the mentors for our mentoring programmes are volunteers so without them we would not be able to run these projects. Our volunteers meet their young person once a week for a year to empower them to make more positive choices whilst giving them a more positive outlook of their community. We are so grateful to the volunteers for their commitment to us and the young people.
What benefits can volunteers expect? The volunteers can expect to have the rewarding experience of empowering young people to become valued citizens of the community whilst being supported throughout the whole process by us. We will also offer free training courses throughout the year and chances to represent TCA at different events.
If no-one volunteered, where would you be? Without our volunteers these services would not go ahead. The 2 mentoring projects rely solely on Volunteers to meet with the young people referred to the service therefore without them these young people would not be offered the service and this may impact on their future as an empowered and valued Dundee Citizen.

Better Services by Design Workshop (Dundee)
Dundee Volunteer and Voluntary Action are delighted to be hosting a free half day workshop on Monday 20 January to introduce a service design approach to public and third sector organisations delivering services to citizens.
You will learn:
👉 A systematic approach to making apparently intangible services clear to a team
👉 How to explore the perspectives of those involved in your services and pinpoint service improvements
👉 Where you could cut unnecessary cost, risk, effort and friction
👉 The potential for digitally enhancing your services making use of free-to-use tools developed by the project
The session, delivered by Jenni Inglis and Jon Gill on behalf of Mydex CIC and The University of Edinburgh can be booked via Eventbrite.

THAT Singing for Wellbeing!
For People living with MS in Dundee and surrounding area
THAT will be delivering an 8 week singing for wellbeing programme for people living with MS in the Dundee and Angus Area commencing Thursday 6th February at 1.30-3.30 in St. Aidans Centre, Brook Street, Broughty Ferry.

Football Fans in Training
FFIT Would you like to join our long list of Dundee United Football Fans in Training graduates on our second intake of the 2019/20 season?
The FREE SPFL Trust course for men and women starts on the week beginning 13th January! FFIT is delivered to groups of men and women aged 35-65 who have a waist size of 38’’ or more. Participants attend 12 weekly sessions at Tannadice to learn useful skills and techniques to help them improve their levels of physical activity and diet. Each meeting involves time in the classroom and also a training session with the DUCT coaches.

Get involved at V&A Dundee
Life at V&A Dundee has been non-stop since we opened our doors in September 2018. 2019 has built on that momentum with visitor from near and far exploring the amazing stories of Ocean Liners, Videogames and Robots in our major exhibitions as well as taking part in workshops, talks and events. As V&A Dundee moves into it’s second full year, we have an incredibly exciting programme ahead including a major exhibition on fashion designer Mary Quant and later – in November – an immersive dive into five decades of nightclubs’ design and culture.
For our local groups, we offer free guided tours of these major exhibitions, as well as tours of the building and our incredible permanent collection covering over 500 years of Scottish design and creativity. Alongside this, we have a range of workshops, aimed at providing free social, creative activities to those who might benefit or be at risk of isolation. Lastly, for those unable to visit the museum, we offer the option of coming out to visit you and can bring a range of objects from our collection to share, discuss and tell stories around.

Feeling Strong, Dundee's youth-led mental health charity, has organised ASIST Suicide First Aid training to be delivered in Dundee by ASIST Master Trainers on Tuesday 25th and Wednesday 26th February, a great way to keep communities safe and a valuable CPD opportunity! Voices Forum meeting
About the Dundee event
Throughout 2019, our Voices Forum has focused on the different themes of our 25 Calls campaign, which we will continue into 2020. At this meeting, run in partnership with Dundee Voluntary Action, we will be covering the 'supporting children, families and communities' theme with a focus on the provision of early learning and childcare (ELC) in the context of the expansion of funded hours.
Hear from experts about how ready Scotland is for the expansion of ELC provision. Discuss your own work and influence our thinking on this key issue. Explore how the presentations that we hear on the day link with your local context and what Children in Scotland can do to support better outcomes for the children, young people and families that you work with.

Corporate Football and Golf Events with a Charitable Impact
As part of our national business five-a-side tournament, Business Fives, the Tayside event is one of 8 events throughout Scotland and is taking place at the SoccerWorld venue in Dundee on the afternoon of Thursday 27th February.
Our reigning winter champions for the last two seasons, Begbies Traynor and Graham Pest Control both came from Tayside and companies like EQ Accountants, WM Donald, Curtis Bank, Dover FS are already involved in the event which has had Sean Dillon, Rab Douglas and Alex Rae as past after match speakers. We were thrilled to have passed the £100,000 mark for charity over the summer and looking forward to continuing to grow our impact as we edge towards the £150k mark. Companies taking part will be playing for the chance to win our 10% company donation for your chosen charity as well as using the events as a vehicle to fundraise in advance.

January 2020 Induction
The January 2020 induction for the Good Governance Award and Introduction to Good Governance Programme is now open for registration. The session will be held at Number Ten from 10:00-12:00 on Wednesday 22nd January 2020.

The Good Governance Award is the quality standard for Scottish charities.
The Award provides a clear, structured approach to assessing and improving a charity’s policies and procedures. Once completed, it provides proof that an organisation is actively engaging in excellent governance through our Award Certification.
The Introduction to Good Governance Programme has been developed to support small charities strengthen their core governance, and is a great precursor to the full Good Governance Award.

Al-Maktoum Community Grants Fund aims to build the capacity of communities to address local issues which impact on people’s ability to look after and improve their own health and wellbeing and live the best life possible. Further information about the purpose and scope of the fund is detailed in the Guidance Notes. 2020 Application deadlines are Friday 29th February and Friday 5th June 2020.
Scottish Natural Heritage has launched a new fund as part of the Scottish Government's Year of Coasts and Water 2020. The fund is called Plunge In! and will provide grants of between £2,000 and £10,000 to help community groups participate in and celebrate #YCW2020 in their own way. The deadline for applications is 28 February 2020.
Postcode Community Trust opens for applications on 21 January 2020. Postcode Community Trust provides project based funding in Great Britain under the themes 'Improving community health & wellbeing, Increasing participation in arts & physical recreation and reducing isolation'.
