First league weekend back for many of the Senior teams - mostly wins and despite the draws and losses, it was great to be back:

P12: W5 D4 L3

Ladies' Leagues
Ladies' 1s v Epsom 1-2 (L)
Ladies' 2s v THD 4-0 (W)
Ladies' 3s v Surbiton 2-2 (D)
Ladies' 4s v Richmond 2-0 (W)
Ladies' 5s v THD 1-0 (W)
Ladies' 6s - no match

Men's Leagues
Men's 1s v HandWHC 0-4 (L)
Mens' 2s v Woking 1-3 (L)
Men's Shadows v Surbiton 1-1 (D)
Men's 3s v Oxted 5-0 (W)
Men's 4s v Cheam 7-1 (W)
Men's Cavaliers v 1-1 (D)
Men's Pilgrims  - no match
Men's Gondoliers v South Berks 1-1 (D)

For the Juniors on Sunday, it was also back to League action after the break.

Similar to the Seniors, it was a split of wins, draws and losses.

Notable wins came for the GU14Bs (6-1 v Reading) and GU12 Shadows (4-0 v Wimbledon) and GU12 Gazelles (4-0 v OCs). NB the GU12 Gazelles are undefeated in a U14 league, leading the league so far!

Congratulations to the GU16A team who had their final Regional League match on Sunday at Richmond which they won 7-2 (capped at 5 GD). They finish top of the league table with 5 wins from 5 played, 25+ goals scored and only 3 let in.

The team also play in an EH Cup competition and are aiming to get to Regional play-offs in both competitions.

Well done, girls! Also a huge well done to GHC Men's 1s XI player James Bennett (GU16 Squad Coach) and Former National League Player Simon Tinkler (GU16A Match Day Coach) for their efforts so far this season!

SUNDAY
Sunday is a training date for those in the Academy Centre ("County") development programme - well done and good luck to those players who have been selected.

We still have plenty of activity for those not in county training: U12s are hosting many boys and girls teams for 7-a-side, a handful or teams are away and others are playing some practice matches at GHC.

Our Senior Mixed team also play in their next round EH Cup match away at Thame in this knock-out competition.

Ladies' Indoor Explainer and This Weekend's Fixtures

GHC Ladies are playing in the England Hockey Super 6s Division Two play-offs taking place 18-19 January in Nottingham!

For those unfamiliar with the EH Indoor competition structure - aka the Super 6s:
  • Premier Division Men
  • Premier Division Women
  • Division One Men
  • Division One Women (*)
  • Division Two Men
  • Division Two Women (**)
  • Regional Qualifiers Men
  • Regional Qualifiers Women (***)
Teams play their way up the structure to the Premier Divisions which have nine teams each.

GHC Ladies won the Southern Counties Regional Qualifiers (***) on 15 December to progress to the Division Two South Play-offs. They came second in that on 4-5 January and so are now in the next level up, the Division Two (**)!

Two teams can qualify on 18-19 January to be in Division One (*) next year.

The Division One and Premier Divisions have also had play-offs recently and the top 4 Men's and Women's Premier Division teams participate in the Jaffa Super 6s on Sunday 2 February at the Copperbox Arena in London (Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park).

Buy tickets for the event here.

You can follow the action online here.

In case you missed it last week, here is the report from the Div 2 South playoffs that took place 4-5 January:

Call for Second Hand Kit - Can you help?

Second Hand Kit Sale:
Friday 31 January

It’s a great opportunity for families to stock up on kit affordably and really does help raise vital funds for the club.

But we need your help. Do you have any second hand hockey kit that you’d be happy to donate?

Many thanks in advance to those of you that are able to support us. It’s hugely appreciated!  - this is a great opportunity for many people to stock up on kit, cut back on waste, and generate some funds for the club, too.

What to donate?

Any outgrown or un-needed GHC hockey kit would be hugely appreciated, particularly tops, shorts, skorts, jackets, trackies or socks.

It’s also a great opportunity to recycle outgrown hockey sticks, shoes, shin pads or gloves. In short, anything you can pass on would be greatly received.

Where to bring it?

Your second hand kit can be handed in to the club bar at Broadwater on Friday nights or collected from Charterhouse.

How will the money be used?

This season we are investing in video equipment that can be used by the whole club. Video analysis is incredibly useful for coaching.

If you have any queries about the sale or need to make arrangements to get the goods to the club on Friday, please contact Cindy Frostick at frosticks@gmail.com

Many thanks in advance!

Light Admin Help Required...

Many hands make light work.

We have dozens and dozens of people helping deliver a great hockey experience at GHC.

But we can always use a few more helping hands.

Our Saturday Umpire Coordinator has sadly had to give up the role - many, many thanks to Rob Lee for having looked after this in recent seasons.

Please contact Mike Kefford if you think you can spare a handful of hours per month (perhaps an hour per week, ahead of the Saturday fixtures) during the season.

No previous experience required; you will meet some new people, send a few texts or emails, and be very much appreciated.

Go for it. Email Mike now...

GHC Brochure 2020 + Message from the Board and DoH

Please see mid-season message in our Club News article. There are a few words from the Board and also plenty of details about what our Director of Hockey, Dan Fox, has been doing since he took the reins on 1st August.

It's been an excellent few months - please have a look and share the news:

Also browse through our 2019/20 Season brochure. The digital copy can be accessed through the cover image below or through the GHC website home page.

Please also help yourself to a printed copy in the clubhouse and share with friends and potential club Partners/Sponsors.

We hope you will agree that each season our brochure gets better and better. There are so many great things to say and this is all compiled and presented beautifully in the brochure.

Many people contributed stories and photos - Thank you. Also a huge thank you to Cathy Sanderson who designed and produced this year's edition as she has done for four seasons now.

Please enjoy it and share it - let's make sure the message about Guildford being a "Great Place to Play" goes far and wide.

Let's face it, the cost of every ball, bib and hour of pitch hire adds up.

Your InTouch editor signed up one year ago; 20 online shopping transactions over the year have netted £21 for the Club. Imagine if 100 or 500 people were to sign up! (Or if I shopped a bit more!)
