Each week I'll send you the three most compelling ideas, facts, studies and/or products related to nutrition, health and wellness that I have to share.

 
  • The Power of Affirmations
There was a long time that I couldn't hear or think about affirmations without thinking about Stewart Smally and giggling..
But I have come to learn that affirmations go much deeper than the idea of standing in front of the mirror saying phrases that communicate confidence and self-love (although this is a great practice).


Affirmations are simply, how and what we think and say.
We have the incredible power and consistent choice to affirm negatively or positively, and our reality will reflect the medium vibration of our words and thoughts.
In the short term, affirmations can help change our state of mind and mood; and in the medium and long term, they can manifest the changes we seek in our lives.

Most people are using the power of affirmations in their day to day lives, but are not aware that they're doing so, and most of the affirmations being repeated are negative. When we are constantly thinking or talking about how unhappy we are, how difficult life is, how we don't have enough money, etc, that's what we will experience on the whole.
And even though the intention is not to manifest negativity by thinking and talking this way, when this is what we're repeating, or affirming, this is what we experience. That's because the subconscious mind accepts what we say and think as truth and attracts corresponding situations and events into our lives.  
However, if we can identify the disadvantageous beliefs we've created, we can turn them around. Any limiting thoughts or beliefs we have about ourselves and our lives can be dissolved by redirecting and intentionally guiding our thoughts and words with love and esteem for ourselves and our vast capabilities to succeed in anything we want.  

This allows our minds to work for us, not against us..   

 
  • Best practices
By repeating short sentences and phrases, frequently to ourselves, silently or aloud (no mirror necessary:), we can imprint ideas onto our subconscious minds and evoke our subconscious to bring our intentions to fruition. This is one way we can take advantage of neuroplasticity and neurogenesis : by reprogramming our minds in order to build new habits, achieve our goals and make positive changes in our lives.

First, we must become aware of what we're repeatedly telling ourselves and holding as truth. We must use a little effort to pay attention to when those thoughts and beliefs arise.. or perhaps when we're speaking to our partners or friends in a way that affirms negativity.
Next, stop ourselves, gently dismiss those thoughts and replace them with positive statements about how we wish to see our reality.
This is how we train the subconscious mind to create positive results in our realities.

Instead of "I can't do this" or "This will never work.." say "I can totally do this.." and "I'm excited to see exactly how this is going to work.." Do this as often as necessary. It might be a lot at first, and that's ok! Just keep doing it and chip away at replacing the negative beliefs we all hold for different reasons.
Just this effort of reversal from negative to positive is so super powerful and will motivate and give newfound ambition that can propel us forward.
