Happy New Year and welcome to winter! 

Thanks to the generosity of our community, we are starting 2020 off strong and celebrating with you our 40th anniversary at the Community Foundation of Lorain County.  Thanks to you we ended the year distributing $6.2M in grants and scholarships to Lorain County.  With your help, we plan to do, even more, both through our Seasons of Giving initiative and our Power of Endowment Campaign.  We hope you can join us tomorrow (Friday, January 24th) beginning at 8:30 am at Lorain County Community College.

In honor of our hometown hero, Toni Morrison, the Community Foundation has partnered with several local organizations to bring a day full of events on the inaugural Toni Morrison Day February 18, 2020. The kick-off to this celebration will be the Lorain County Toni Morrison Essay Contest for Young People.

When applying, make sure to have your official transcript, student aid report (FAFSA), one or more recommendation letters and a personal statement.  All Lorain County residents are eligible.  Please share this information with others.

Join Lorain County National Council of Negro Women and the African American Community Fund for an event that will put your knowledge of Black History to the test. Teams of four will compete with only one team being crowned champion. The cost to participate is $100 per team and teams must register by February 1, 2020.

On January 10th over 70 organizations participated in our non-profit financial seminar. This is apart of our ongoing effort to help Lorain County non-profits. Please save the upcoming seminar dates:

Martin Luther King Jr. Day
The President of the African American Community Fund, Regan Phillips, addresses the crowd at the 34th annual Elyria Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community-Wide Celebration titled "Living the Dream". This event included singing by the Martin Luther King Jr. Reunion Mass Choir, thoughts from Elyria Mayor Frank Whitfield and superintendent Ann Schloss and a video showcasing  Dr. LaTauyna Conley's legacy with the MLK Day Commission.  Dr. Conley is a former board chair of the African American Community Fund and member for over 17 years. 
Lakeland Mini Grant Increase to $500 
With the success of the Lakeland mini-grant, the Community Foundation of Lorain County will be increasing the award amount up to $500 starting in January 2020. “This increase will help provide more support through a simple, responsive grant process that reduces barriers to non-profits in Lorain County. We look forward to seeding future opportunities with local partners just like Lakeland Community Foundation and working together in support of this great community we call home,” said Cynthia H. Andrews, President and CEO of the Community Foundation of Lorain County.
