Making Headlines: Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Next Monday, January 20th from 8:30am-3pm the students, faculty, and staff will gather for our annual MLK Day program. At that time, we will be joined by Andre Robert Lee.  Mr. Lee is a documentary filmmaker and an adjunct Professor of Writing at UPENN’s Wharton Business School, and he teaches filmmaking at Germantown Friends School.

Whether in the classroom, as a filmmaker, or as a speaker, Mr. Lee’s passion for social justice keeps alive the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  Mr. Lee wrote, directed and produced the autobiographical documentary, The Prep School Negro. Additionally, Mr. Lee was the producer on the documentary feature I’m Not Racist…Am I?  Mr. Lee has worked on film projects with Spike Lee, Pharrell Williams, Antoine Fuqua, and RuPaul.  Mr. Lee is currently working on his next film project and two books.

Besides Mr. Lee’s keynote talk, the day will have two featured activities: the entire school will play the American Dream board game, and we will watch Mr. Lee’s film, I’m Not Racist … Am I?
