EDITOR'S NOTE

As many of you are probably aware, I have been diagnosed with BRVO (you can Google it). Simply put, my right eye has some hemorrhaging taking place and the fluids are building up in the back of the eye. This creates a blindness in that eye. It has been so severe that, at its worst, I cannot read even using "cheaters."

Lately, I have been moved by stories of blindness in the Bible. The LORD "opens the eyes of the blind" (Ps. 146:8). The blind were drawn to Christ (Matt. 15:30-31; 21:14). Two blind men had their sight restored by Jesus "according to their faith" (Matt. 9:27-30). The Savior also healed a blind demoniac (Matt. 12:22). Indeed, opening the eyes of the blind was a confirmation of His claim to be Messiah (John 10:21).

Sometimes blindness is a judgment from God (Gen. 19:11; 2 Ki. 6:18; Acts 13:11). Other times God allows it so "the works of God would be made manifest" (John 9:3) through the healing.

How did Jesus heal blindness? It varied. Sometimes he simply spoke the word (Matt. 9). Other times he spat on the ground, anointing the blind eyes with the cool, refreshing spittle of the Savior (John 9)!

Sadly, a lack of spiritual sight is also a blindness (2 Pet. 1:9; Rev. 3:17). The Jewish leaders who opposed Jesus were said to be "blind" and "leaders of the blind" (Matt. 15:14; 23:16-26). Satan has blinded the eyes of the lost "lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ should shine unto them" (2 Cor. 4:4).

Much more could be said. I trust your physical eyesight is good and your spiritual vision is even better! Oh, and to wrap up the story on my BRVO diagnosis, I am receiving monthly eye injections to drain the fluid in the eye. Will you pray with me it will be effective?

NEW PASTOR AT GILBERT

Lakeland Baptist Church in Gilbert voted unanimously to extend a call to Caleb Lobb on January 15. Caleb, and his wife Megan, were serving on an interim basis as pastor and wife. For those who may be unfamiliar with Caleb, he is the son of the previous pastor, Nathan Lobb. Brother Nathan graduated to glory last January.

RICE WORK CLOSED

The work at Two Rivers Baptist in Rice was a work which began nearly four years ago. The work has averaged 15 people in the last quarter of 2019. The leadership of the church plant discussed continuing these efforts for one more year, but have concluded, all things considered, to cease the church planting efforts in Rice at the end of 2019.

We appreciate the prayers, interest and finances which many provided for this effort. We are thankful for those who have been saved, baptized and who have become a part of the work in the Rice area. Thanks and glory be to God!

The majority of those who attended Two Rivers are planning to join Grace Baptist in Sartell (the mother church of the new work).

Pray for those impacted by this decision, especially church planters Jesse and Kristi Laidlaw

BASS LAKE CAMPING NEWS

CAMP BROCHURES: These are being shipped to us as the MBM is being published. Churches should see the brochures by February 1. Previous campers on our mailing list should receive an individual copy at their home around April 1.

CORPORATION MEETING: The annual meeting of the camp corporation will be on Monday, March 2 (6:45 p.m.) at West River Road Baptist Church in Brooklyn Park. Regular Baptist churches who have financially contributed to the camp are invited to attend. Each church is allowed to have one pastor and one other messenger to vote on all proceedings.

BOY'S CABIN #2: A September storm caused a tree to fall on this cabin. The insurance company deemed it a total loss. We are looking to rebuild this cabin into a three- season cabin (complete with a/c and heat). While we have received our insurance money, we are still in need of finances to rebuild this cabin to our desire. Can you help us? Gifts can be sent to the camp address at 39725 225th St., Winnebago, MN. 56098.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Would you prayerfully consider serving with us at camp this summer? We need all sorts of workers for every week of camp. Responsibilities could include yard work, maintenance, cooking, nursing, counseling and more.

WEBSITE UPDATED: We have updated all the dates for next year's camping season. We have included some new pictures too. Check it out HERE.

Be sure to follow us on Facebook. The camp has a business page and a public group page whereby you can share your thoughts on the camping ministry. The Facebook feeds allow you to be informed of camp events on a regular basis. You will see pictures of building progress, our needs, deadline alerts and other useful information.

The 2020 camp schedule is at the end of this newsletter.

CHURCH NEWS

Hibbing, First Baptist
Though wintry weather interfered with some church services in December, it was no obstacle on December 22 when the annual church Christmas program was presented.  Between adults and children, there were some 35 individuals involved in presenting music, Scripture and readings from The Gospel Primer as part of a program we entitled "Our Hope is Jesus."   This service, as well as our Candlelight Christmas Eve service, and our New Year's Eve fellowship and service, were very well attended.

We are pleased to announce that one of the young men who grew up in our church, Rodney King, Jr., was ordained to the pastoral ministry by Calvary Baptist Church in Findlay, Ohio, where he has been serving as youth pastor.   Pastor Greg Stevens was honored to be invited to participate in the examination council on January 18th and to preach at Pastor Rod's ordination service on January 19th.  Pastor Rod is a graduate of Maranatha Baptist University. He is presently continuing his studies at Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary while he serves in pastoral ministry.
