As usual, something illustrative happened on Twitter the other day.

It began with this innocuous Tweet, expressing an obvious truth.

What could be more obvious than that?

Not to the left, though.

Remember when the left used to say "small is beautiful"?

Evidently it's now "small is evil and stupid and backward," and "gigantic and unresponsive is progressive and awesome."

(Much of the conservative movement is equally clueless on this, I am sorry to report.)

This innocuous remark generated this response:

This is lunacy, of course; libertarianism does not involve the "supremacy" of any group. It says only that nobody may initiate aggression against anyone else.

In fact, think of the three principal issues against which Ron Paul campaigned: war, central banking, and the war on drugs. Each one of these disproportionately harms nonwhites. Some white supremacist that guy is!

That's how I would have responded to this evil smear. Or maybe I would have ignored it, because anyone who talks like that is almost certainly beyond reach.

Here, by contrast, is the response of a local Libertarian Party chapter in Nevada, perhaps the worst state for the LP in America (in terms of having sane leadership):

Wow.

First:

There is zero chance that the person accusing all of us of "white supremacy" even knows who Hoppe and Rothbard are. Like most people, he probably thinks libertarianism is Milton Friedman and Ayn Rand.

Second:

Imagine thinking the kindly Ron Paul -- Ron Paul! -- is a "white supremacist." Here he is the one guy in Congress who consistently voted against bombing nonwhites, and who actually spoke out about the loss of life not just of U.S. soldiers but also of foreigners in faraway lands -- and he's the white supremacist?

Meanwhile, for people like this John McCain may have been not the best guy in the world, but they would never, ever level the kind of smear at McCain that they routinely do at Ron Paul. Never.

What also comes through here is their quaintly naive idea that if only we explain to leftists that our leftist brand of libertarianism is the real thing, then surely they'll be reasonable enough not to dismiss us as white supremacists.

The basis of this idea is that leftists are basically acting in good faith.

Imagine living in 2020 America and thinking this.

And really, these so-called libertarians think they'll be spared? The second they indicate their unhappiness with Obamacare they'll be lumped in with the rest of us as "fascists."

There is no point in pandering to crazy people.

Stand up and fight.

The Tweet about centralization was correct and should have been defended. Instead, these cowards begged some nobody not to call them white supremacists.

What is the point?

Just tell the truth already.

That's what I'm trying my best to do every day on the Tom Woods Show.

If you enjoy, learn from, and appreciate that, a boatload of goodies -- along with my profound appreciation -- await you here:
