The earth does not belong to us; we belong to the earth. - Chief Seattle

Aloha <<First Name>>,

Many of today's youth consider no topic more pertinent than the health of Planet Earth. Perhaps you were drawn to Still & Moving Center by its mission statement, including: 'Here we make choices to sustain the Earth and its creatures." Certainly caring for nature, for the land - malama ka 'aina - lies at the foundation of Hawaiian sensibilities. If we only pause long enough, mindfully enough, we realize that Earth itself continues to nurture and heal us.

Join us then for any of the activities below to affirm your connection with and love for this beautiful Earth.

“The best antidote to despair is action.”
- David Wallace-Wells, author of The Uninhabitable Earth

We are messaged every day about how to tackle the climate crisis and better the world we live in. And each day we respond by either ignoring it, or taking action that supports the Earth. Each is a choice, deliberately made with its own set of consequences and responsibilities. Wallace-Wells continues “Inaction is just another form of action.”

Far from complacent, Still & Moving Center has, from its inception, adopted environmentally mindful practices. In our initial remodeling of the building, we either kept original concrete that came with the building and flooring, or covered it with sustainable mango wood or cork. We embrace the authentic Hawaiian approach: malama ka ‘aina - care for the land.

Still & Moving Center takes action daily:

  • We choose eco-conscious brands for our cleaning products, linens and paper products
  • All items in Boutique E are selected for their ethical practices and preferably from local sources
  • We are a fully vegetarian facility
  • Our light bulbs keep pace with the newest sustainable technology
  • Solar-powered fans on the roof move air out of our Barefoot Ballroom
  • We avoid plastics as much as is practical, preferring natural materials
  • We work with Travel 2Change to offer visitors “voluntourism” opportunities to support local Hawaiian culture and sustain the Earth.
  • Many members of our staff/faculty/student body are active volunteers & climate activists
  • Still & Moving Center frequently teams up Mouna Farm & Cultural Village in Waianae to promote care for the environment and its people

Together with our parent company, Prometheus Construction, we are partnering to complete the  Whales for World Peace “Ka Koholā Ola” project by Sooriya Kumar, raising environmental awareness with the creation of two gigantic copper whale sculptures, 25 and 40 feet long, that will be installed on the new Nanakuli Community Center.

Still & Moving chooses to take action. We gratefully bear the responsibility of our choices and invite you to join us.

Together, we stand a chance of turning the tide.
