Hello my lovely friends!

Happy New Year!   I'm sending loads of blessings your way for a year filled with whatever you are seeking.

Our year has gotten off to a very wet start.  The crawlspace under our new addition stayed almost dry - and we figure that once the gutters are on, it will dry out and stay dry.  This is in no small part due to the drainage we have been digging and continue to dig around the house and gardens to direct our plethora of rainwater and spring water away from the house and road and into the ditches and creeks. We have moved literally dozens of tons of clay and gravel over the years.  Since the holidays, we were happy to finally fill the chasms around the foundation with drainage tile and gravel, which made the entrance through the new back door space safer and much more attractive.  It also means that the dog can get into that back area with Eric now.  She never figured out how to climb up the ramp over the foundation chasm and spent many unhappy hours with her head in the doorway whining that she was out when Eric was in.  [She is much happier now, though now I hear frequent exclamations, 'Pepper!  Get out of my face!'   It is very hard to chalk a floor with Pepper in the room.]   All in all, we're making progress!

The rain has warmed and greened things up and twice I've been outside and heard very confused spring peepers singing.  Poor things.  It's far to early for them to come out.

In the meantime, I am loving the warmer winter and looking forward to attending two great galleries in Nashville, Indiana this month.   The first is the Patron exhibit/competition at the Brown County Art Guild [48 S. Van Buren St. Nashville, Indiana] from now until February 22, 2020.    I have two paintings in that show - 'Linton Barn Study' [above] and 'Ironweed and Wildflowers'.    This is a great show, showcasing the immense talent of the patrons who help support the Guild.  The second is the wonderful Brown County Art Gallery [on the corner of Artist Dr and Main St.], which is focusing on their permanent collections in January and February.   Between the two galleries, there is a lot of fabulous Hoosier art on display.

All my best love to you all for a season filled with beautiful art and peaceful moments.

-Robin

On the blog...

I've been thinking a lot about great design and strong composition lately.  I've looked at dozens of artists and hundreds of paintings, studying the composition structures of paintings that I love.  This is what I've been doing and why...
