Stand Against Changes to Asylum
Today is the deadline to submit a public comment against a proposed rule that would make the process to apply for asylum unnecessarily harder
On November 14th, the Trump Administration proposed a new rule that would make it more difficult or impossible for asylum seekers to apply for a work permit as they go through the asylum process. If this rule became premanent policy, it would have a significant impact. Accompanying asylum seekers to immigration court in Portland, the IMIrJ community has seen how work permits allow people independence that can serve as a catalyst for building a fuller life amidst uncertainty.
This new rule is meant to further dehumanize community members seeking protection in the United States. We can stand against it by submitting a comment today:
To comment, follow this link then click the "comment now" link at the top of the column on the right.
Use this one-pager to learn more about the rule and use the talking points. Customize your comment to make sure it is counted.
Please spread this widely to your congregations and communities. The deadline to comment is today at 10 PM PST.
