Meet TDL Volunteer, Ellen Comstock

Ellen has been a volunteer here at TDL  for 10 years. She works in the non-fiction section, straightening the books and dusting the shelves. For her, the most important thing she does is clean and check the books for damage, which helps to keep the books in good repair so that they last longer, thus saving the library money. There is not one specific aspect of the job that Ellen likes the best as she enjoys doing it all.

When not helping to preserve the books at the library, Ellen likes to read mysteries, books on the paranormal, gardening and various magazines.

Audio Books with Sonja

Featuring Narrator
Tim Campbell
Reading The Spitfire
by Christi Caldwell

Tim Campbell’s voice has been praised in numerous reviews. I picked up the audio book “The Spitfire” by Christi Caldwell. I was sold after he read the title of the book and the author, about 15 seconds into the first CD. I cannot gush enough about the warm timbre in Mr. Campbell’s voice which can turn into a razor sharp drawl within a moment’s notice.

“The Spitfire” features a wonderfully spunky heroine. With her fists and knees, she inflicts considerable pain to most males in the book (her love interest, the very proper Earl of Waterson, notwithstanding.)

However, the dialogue is at times repetitive as the characters rethink whole conversations in their heads. Had I read the story, I would probably have skipped over these parts. Mr. Campbell, on the other hand, gives these repetitive sections a whole different spin by rereading them in contrasting nuances.

Time and again I am amazed by the power a narrator has to turn a good story into an amazing story. And Tim Campbell does not disappoint. With his immense range in accents, dialects and voice pitch, he could have read the same passage three times over and it would still be ever so slightly different. In fact, I found myself going back a few tracks once in a while to marvel at a particularly well-narrated passage.
Tim Campbell’s talent is not restricted to romance novels – even though he is extremely well suited for that genre, believe me! Among many others, he also performs legal thrillers and classics, such as Moby Dick and The Phantom of the Opera.
TDL owns “The Spitfire” by Christy Caldwell on Audio.

we dare be brave.
And suddenly we see that love costs
all we are and will ever be.
Yet it is only love which sets us free."
