Capital Construction

Vacancy on Capital Construction Assistance Board (BEST Grants)
 

CDE's Capital Construction Assistance Board (the Building Excellent Schools Today Grant Program) has a vacancy for a board member with public school finance expertise and knowledge of public school trust lands. This position will be appointed by the president of the Colorado Senate and will serve a maximum of three two-year terms starting on or after Feb. 1. FY 20-21 Building Excellent Schools Today grant application is open
 

The FY 2020-21 cycle for BEST grants is now open. Signed and completed applications are due no later than 4 p.m. Monday Feb. 24. We strongly encourage anyone considering applying for a BEST grant to contact the Capital Construction Unit and watch the available webinar, which explains the grant application. Early Learning & School Readiness

READ Act Rules-public comment
 

The State Board of Education noticed a rulemaking process for rules for the administration of the Reading to Ensure Academic Development Act (READ Act), 1 CCR 301-9. This update will incorporate changes to the READ Act that occurred in the 2018-19 legislative sessions. The rule making hearing is scheduled for the February State Board of Education meeting.The state board  is accepting public comments on the noticed rules. Those interested in submitting feedback can do so at state.board@cde.state.co.us. For more information, please see the READ Act rules change here.

READ budget reporting requirements

Postsecondary Readiness

Nominations for Concurrent Enrollment Advisory Board members open
 

 Concurrent Enrollment Advisory Board member nominations for a representative from a district or Charter School Institute-authorized school are now open. 

Nomination materials must be emailed to Michelle Romero by Friday, Jan. 31. Please visit the advisory board webpage for more information.

School Counselor Corps Grant applications open
 

The School Counselor Corps Grant (SCC) is a competitive award for school districts, BOCES and charter schools to increase the availability and implementation of effective school-based counseling in order to increase the state graduation rate and the percentage of students who appropriately prepare for, apply to and continue into postsecondary education.

The anticipated level of funding available for the 2020-21 school year is about $500,000, for approximately 15 grant awards (funding is contingent upon pending legislative appropriations). Priority consideration will be given to applicants with schools that have not been previously funded.

If interested in applying please submit the Intent to Apply via the Survey Monkey by Friday, Feb. 7, by 11:59 pm. The Intent to Apply is informational for CDE and is not required in order to submit an application.

Applications are due Friday, March 13, by 11:59 pm. For additional information and to access the application training webinar and the application, please visit the SCC website.
