Save the date! MPCCC Precision Oncology Seminar

Dr Vivek Rathi, MD and Fellow of the RCPA from St Vincent's Pathology
in Melbourne specialises in Molecular Pathology, Neuropathology and Cytology. Dr. Rathi will deliver a MPCCC Precision Oncology Seminar on Friday 13 March, from 1-2pm at Monash Health Translation Precinct, Monash Medical Centre, Clayton. His talk will include a demonstration of
the increasing role of cytology in sequencing solid tumours.

Human Factors Short Course 2020 

This course, organised by Monash University, will provide an introduction to the practical application of human factors principles to organisational and clinical settings.  By doing so, it will encourage the participants to improve patient safety at a managerial or clinical level with a broader base of skills than is commonly available within health services. Let’s Talk about Sex: Sexuality and Sexual Difficulties 

This multidisciplinary course on Sexuality and Sexual Difficulties for health practitioners and students will discuss the need to talk about sex, address the obstacles, and will empower the registrants to raise and discuss topics of sexuality and sexual difficulties with their patients. It will cover the assessment and management of common sexual difficulties, from a bio-psycho-socio-cultural perspective, provide educational resources and an overview of therapeutic options.

NEW Optimal Care Pathways: Cervical Cancer, Sarcoma, Cancer of Unknown Primary

Cancer Council has recently released three new Optimal Care Pathways to join the existing suite of national resources which are designed to reduce inequities, help all health professionals and people affected by cancer to navigate the healthcare system and provide a framework to measure performance. CCV Report: Informing the next Victorian Cancer Plan

Over the last six months, Cancer Council Victoria (CCV) asked more than 600 Victorians, clinicians and researchers, what is needed to improve cancer outcomes for all Victorians. This vital information, along with published reports and cancer statistics, has informed CCV's submission to the Victorian State Government as it prepares the next Victorian Cancer Plan, to be released mid-2020.

Victorian Cancer Malnutrition Collaborative newly developed resources

The Victorian Cancer Malnutrition Collaborative (VCMC) are excited to introduce some newly developed resources to support the nutritional care of people with cancer, which have been endorsed by the Dietitians Association of Australia. They include:

  • The CanEAT pathway, helping people with cancer, carers and health professionals deliver and achieve optimal nutrition care. There is one pathway for people with cancer and their carers and one for health professionals. 
  • The Malnutrition Screening Tool (MST) has been culturally adapted and translated into 10 languages. This online interactive tool has been created and includes an in-built calculator and audio in each language. A new associated Preventing weight loss for people with cancer resource is also available. 
  • A refreshed Malnutrition in Cancer eLearning program has been developed for multidisciplinary cancer clinicians from hospital and community settings and is designed to improve awareness, recognition and understanding of malnutrition and to ultimately improve screening and earlier management of this high-risk patient group.

MRFF Australian Brain Cancer Mission 2019 Brain Cancer Survivorship grant opportunity provides medical researchers with funding for the development of better approaches on the impacts of brain cancer to improve quality of life and the survivorship experience. Grants of up to $5 million are available and applications will open on 11 February, closing on 3 March 2020. Find out more »
 



MRFF Rural, Regional and Remote Clinical Trial Enabling Infrastructure this funding scheme aims to provide initial stimulus funding for innovative approaches with potential for national application. The intended outcome of the grant opportunity is improved access to clinical trials by Australians living in rural, regional and remote areas of Australia. $100 million is available in this funding pool. MRFF Biomedical Translation Bridge (BTB) Program provides up to $1 million in matching funding over a maximum two-year year period to  nurture early stage health and medical research to reach proof-of-concept stage with potential to attract further capital and support.  This is a two-step program beginning with an EOI, from which a selected group will be invited to apply.  An information session on the BTB program will be held at Monash Health Translation Precinct on 10 February 2020.

Monash Health Emerging Research Fellowships 2020 The purpose of this Fellowship is to invest early in upcoming research careers and to encourage Monash Health employees to conduct a research project. It provides a career development opportunity for those who do not have a proven record of research and to provide some salary support for employees in all health related disciplines including Allied Health, Medicine and Nursing.The Fellowship awards $20,000 over a 12 month period. Applications close 18 March 2020. Find out more »
Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ) Research Grants These grants enable members of the CSSANZ to initiate research projects and strategic pilot studies, establish suitable networks, and to compile and analyse key preliminary findings. Applicants must be members or fellows of the society, or Training Board in Colon and Rectal Surgery trainees undertaking training under the supervision of suitably qualified members or fellows of the society. Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases (GACD) Cancer Prevention Funding Call 2019 Investigators can submit applications for research associated with the implementation research proposals for primary and/or secondary prevention of cancer in Low and Middle Income Countries and/or in populations facing conditions of vulnerability in High-Income Countries.  Applications that address Indigenous health, and in particular, applications that involve collaborations between Australia, Canada and/or New Zealand are encouraged.
