Recognize school boards in January
The month of January marks the annual observance of School Board Recognition Month — a time to salute the work of more than 600 school board members serving South Carolina public schools. Schools and districts around the state participate in School Board Recognition Month to honor the contributions and service of school board trustees. The theme, "School Board Strong," highlights the unique role school boards play in representing their constituents by promoting and advocating for public education. SCSBA has provided each district with a large graphic poster of the Ethical Principles for school board members again this year. Board members will hold an official signing of the principles during their January school board meeting, publicly saying that they will uphold these effective governance principles throughout the coming year. SCSBA also provides online resources, including a sample news release, a sample op-ed column, ideas for using social media, logos and more. For additional information, please contact Becky Bean at 1.800.326.3679.

SCSBIT offers members STOPit reporting program
The South Carolina School Boards Insurance Trust is excited to offer our SCSBIT property and casualty members a new service at no additional cost to their districts. STOPit Solutions is an anonymous reporting program, used by thousands of schools nationwide, to ensure student and school safety. This program empowers students and employees to speak up about behavior like bullying, misconduct and mental health issues where they are most comfortable—their phones. STOPit includes a powerful incident management system giving administrators investigative tools, such as real-time alerts, built-in reports and the ability to communicate directly with incident submitters. For more information, click here or contact SCSBIT’s Director of Insurance Services Steve Mann at 1.800.326.3679.
