ISCE Newsletter

Belated seasonal greetings to all of you on the ISCE mailing list.

I have no wish to make you suffer from ISCE Newsletter overload but there are a few very important announcements to make in this Newsletter so please do not delete this message!
ISCE 2020
I am delighted to say that over 50 abstracts were received for consideration for the Jos Willems Early Career Investigator Competition and the main oral and poster sessions. This represents a significant increase over numbers in recent years and the Board will keep its promise of offering 50% reduction in registration to those JWECI contestants whose abstracts are of high quality but were not selected for the final. Likewise, there are 4 similar reductions sponsored by the Centre for Physiological Research at UCSF as previously intimated.

All of the abstracts have now just been reviewed.  Letters will be sent by the end of January to all of those who submitted an abstract and for those whose abstracts have been accepted, instructions for oral or poster presentations as well as manuscript submission, where relevant, will follow shortly thereafter.
Registration for ISCE 2020 - NOW OPEN!!
I am pleased to say that following ISCE’s move to a new Association Management Company, namely Hauck and Associates based in Washington DC, a new style of conference registration page is now open!  Hauck have been using this package for other conferences over the years and credit card fees are much less than ISCE has paid elsewhere in the past.

ISCE has maintained a constant registration fee for as long as I can remember backed up with some documentation going back to 2011 underlining no increase in costs since then. The Board has agreed that this is untenable and therefore this year, there will be a rise in the registration costs, which merely keeps pace with inflation over the past 10 years. I am sure you will accept that this is not unreasonable.

Please note that registration for the conference includes accommodation for 4 nights in a top class hotel as well as all food and beverages. In addition, you will be able to book rooms at the hotel for 3 nights before and after the conference at the reduced conference cost of $216 per night. This can be paid at the time of registration. Please be sure to register by April 7, 2020 as after that date the hotel cannot guarantee the special ISCE room rate and availability.

I hope that the vast bulk of abstracts will prove of excellent scientific quality which would mean that around 50 rooms for the hotel are effectively spoken for already! In addition, there will be rooms allocated to speakers and it is hoped all of the Board will attend! This means that approximately 80 rooms will effectively be required from the outset so my recommendation would be to register early to avoid disappointment! The early registration deadline is March 16th. May I remind you that the conference will be held in a superb location – Indian Wells, CA.

ISCE Membership
This year, the Board has agreed to my suggestion of a new approach to ISCE membership. Everyone who registers for the conference will automatically become a member of ISCE for one year and will receive a copy of the Journal of Electrocardiology in printed form as well as electronic access.

On the other hand, if an individual is unable to attend ISCE in any one year and wishes to remain a member of ISCE, it will be possible to have a one year membership for $125, which includes a paper copy and electronic access to the Journal of Electrocardiology. This represents a very significant saving compared to an individual registration directly with the journal. I should add that this is not profit making for ISCE in any way. It is offered as a service to members of ISCE who may not be able to attend the annual conference on every occasion but might like the continuity of receiving the Journal every year. In past years, membership of ISCE cost $250 so the new charge represents a significant reduction in order to encourage everyone to remain a member of ISCE even if not able to attend the annual conference. If you would like to renew your membership but are unable to attend the ISCE 2020 Annual Conference please click HERE to renew through the ISCE website.
Journal of Electrocardiology
In connection with your subscription to the Journal of Electrocardiology, you will be asked in your conference registration to insert your preferred address for delivery of the paper copy. Please be concise but absolutely clear in specifying the delivery address which of course can be a home address if you prefer.  I suggest that it would be less than optimum to insert, for example, I.A.M.Rich, Great Company, Costa Fortuna as this is unlikely to find you in a large organisation unless you are the boss!

That is enough news for now! I look forward to watching registrations for ISCE 2020 accumulate over the coming weeks and to seeing many of you in Indian Wells on April 29th!  Remember that Palm Springs is the nearest international airport.
