Dear Parish Family,

I must thank all of you for the outpouring of love I received at the death of my father.  Your prayers, cards and Masses have been a great source of comfort for me and my family.  I have long thought that death is not the worse thing to happen to someone.  The worse thing to happen to someone is separation from God.  As my dad said to me many times:  "Brian, don't you dare be sad at my funeral.  If you truly believe what you have given your life to, you should be happy for me." Not only is my dad right, his faith was interacted until the day he died.

In light of my father’s passing I would like to invite you to celebrate a memorial mass in memory of all deceased parents, this Tuesday, January 21, at 7:00 pm.  It will be a candle light Mass and everyone will have an opportunity during the Mass to offer a word of tribute about a deceased parent(s). Votive candles will be available to take home so the memory of your loved ones can continue to burn brightly in your hearts and homes.  Also light hospitality will be offered after the Mass downstairs in the Parish Hall.

In slight sorrow and abundant gratitude, I take my first few steps as an orphan but I do so with great confidence with the God who called me into life and has also promised to be with me forever.  I am well blessed to have had tremendous parents and to be a priest at a wonderful parish!  All are welcome to come out and celebrate our parents who have passed from this life to the life to come.

Prayerfully,

Fr. Brian Sullivan

Christ the King Parish Makes a Difference
December 17, 2019

Thank you Father Brian Sullivan and the Parish Family of Christ the King, New Vernon for their generous $15,000 contribution through the We Care, We Share Program to Catholic Charities.  These Funds will be used towards the purchase of a new walk-in refrigeration/freezer unit at the Father English Center in Paterson.

“Catholic Charities is blessed to get more fresh produce than ever before from the Community Foodbank of New Jersey and other food sources.  Fresh produce should never be left out of refrigeration for an extended period of time and is our top priority to keep the individuals we serve safe, as well as provide them with healthy food options,” said Carlos Roldan, the Director of Catholic Charities Food Pantries.

Through the generosity of a prior bequest, an initiative called “We Care/We Share” was launched in 2017 to support the Church’s current and future outreach programs.  Parishioners from Christ the King have pledged contributions which were then matched from interest generated from the bequest.  The Fund is used to serve organizations within the Paterson Diocese.

Catholic Charities Food Pantries accommodate over 25,000 visits each year.  Thanks to this contribution, the Father English Food Pantry will be able to give out more fresh produce and meats to those who seek help.

"We are so appreciative of the continued support of Father Brian Sullivan and the Parishioners of Christ the King Parish.  We serve more people today at Father English and at all of our food pantries than ever before.  This generous support will allow us to provide more people with healthier options, and for this we are grateful,” said Scott Milliken, CEO, Catholic Charities.

Double Your Impact through the
We Care, We Share Outreach Fund

Through the generosity of a prior bequest, this initiative was launched to both strengthen and streamline our parish’s role as a charitable Catholic community. In establishing the initial Fund, parishioners have pledged contributions which were then matched from interest generated from the bequest. We need annual and ongoing donations to keep the We Care, We Share Fund operational. Parishioners can be assured that every dollar donated will continue to be matched by the parish.

The Fund is used to serve organizations within the Paterson Diocese and particularly within the surrounding communities of the Parish. Organizations requesting funding must an Application. Submitted applications will be reviewed twice annually by the Outreach Endowment Advisory Board. CLICK HERE to review all the documentation associated with this Fund.

You can double the impact of your charity dollars!  In the spirit of Catholic charity and fellowship, which has always led our Parish to share its good fortune with our disadvantaged neighbors, we passionately hope you will join us in supporting our outreach program. If you have any questions regarding this newly established Fund or would like more information in order to contribute, please contact Jonathan Camiolo at the parish office at (973)539-4955 ext.13 or jonathan@churchofchristtheking.org.

Bible Study
"Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible"

Many people want to read the Bible because they know it is God’s Word, but they give up because it seems so complicated. Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible helps you to get the “big picture” of the Bible by showing how fourteen narrative books of the Bible tell the complete story from Adam and Eve to Christ and the Church.

Giving Tree

THANK YOU!!!

Our Giving Tree Project this year was another HUGE success!
Your generosity produced incredible results:

Passaic Neighborhood, Catholic Charities,
Birth Haven, Eva’s Village, Family Promise and
Morris County Housing Authority
all received over
and above what they asked for,
and they were amazed at the response.

We collected more than 420 gifts!
We added extra tags because the response was so amazing.

139 gift cards were donated totaling close to $7,000.
WOW!

The inmates at the Morris County Correctional Facility received a “car-full” of donations - over 600 pairs of socks, almost 300 t-shirts, more than 150 briefs, and the 100s of toiletries - soap, shampoo, and deodorant – filled 20 heavy duty grocery bags to the breaking point. So impressive!

Thank you, too, for all those who assisted with moving and storing the gifts as they arrived. Special thanks to Colleen Roberts for the gift tags and coordination with Sue Clifford in the office, as well as Cathy & Tom Leahy, Janice & Darrin Sokol and Amy Castronovo and their families for sorting and packing it all up for pickup.

On behalf of the organizations above, we thank each and every one of you for your generous spirit which made Christmas so happy for hundreds,
if not thousands, of people.  The Christ the King staff prays that God continues to bless and reward you in the New Year!
Christmas Pageant 2019
[photo album]

On Sunday, December 15, the children of our parish brought the Christmas Story to life! Ranging from our 3 year old angel, to our middle school narrators, our young parishioners (with the help of our wonderful parents) allowed us to sing, pray and remind us all about the true meaning of Christmas!
