Welcome to the ArtsEd Tennessee Legislative Newsletter
You are receiving this because you attended one of the ArtsEdTN/Americans for the Arts workshops held last October, or because you have expressed an interest in becoming involved in advocacy for arts education in our state.
ArtsEd Tennessee is a statewide arts education advocacy coalition that represents and supports all of the arts in the K-12 curriculum. Our member organizations include the state associations for music, visual art, theatre, and dance. In addition to these arts associations, our membership also includes several arts-related businesses, arts nonprofits, arts advocates, and others who support arts education.

We work closely with state legislators in the Tennessee General Assembly, monitoring all education legislation to insure the arts remain strong in the curriculum. It is our belief that the best way to have robust arts programs in our schools is by working together, uniting all the arts throughout the state and presenting a unified voice to education policymakers.

“During this session state legislators will propose approximately 350 pieces of legislation that will directly impact K-12 education.”
The 111th Tennessee General Assembly reconvened on January 14, 2020, and as in the past, education will be one of the main legislative priorities. During this session state legislators will propose approximately 350 pieces of legislation that will directly impact K-12 education.
We will monitor all of this legislation for possible unintended consequences for arts education. As important legislation is proposed, we will send Legislative Updates, to both keep you informed and to let you know if advocacy action is necessary.
If we are to secure the future of the arts in our schools, we must take an active role as a unified profession. To have a major voice at the legislative table we must work across content areas for a common goal: vibrant, well-funded arts education programs for all Tennessee students. This is the primary goal of ArtsEd Tennessee, and is why we do what we do.
Watch for our future updates, and we thank each of you for what you do for the children of Tennessee every day.
