Audio Book Giveaway + USWNT Weddings +... the PTA?

Happy New Year! I hope your 2020 is starting out as well as can be expected in the face of the continual shit-show of US politics. For myself, I've found that focusing on local organizations is a good distraction from global and national disasters over which I have no control. I never thought of myself as a PTA kind of parent, but now I not only attend PTA meetings, I'm also on my district's parental advisory committee. After a couple of years of writing letters and speaking up with like-minded people, we now have full support for adding LGBTQ+ and other diversity topics (yay, intersectionality!) to our district's elementary school curriculum. This is a huge win, especially in a district where 25% of teens surveyed identify as LGBTQ+.

Audio Books: Training Ground & Game Time Now Available

In other news, I'm thrilled to announce that the first two books in the Girls of Summer series are now available in audio! Britney Gil, who narrated book 4 last year, has returned to voice the rest of the series. She's currently working on book 3 as I write this, with plans to tackle book 5 next. You can find Training Ground (book 1) on AudibleAmazon, and iTunes. Game Time (book 2) is also on Audible, Amazon, and iTunes.

As a thank you to my list subscribers, I'm running a GIVEAWAY for three copies of each audio book. To enter, simply reply to this message with an answer to the following question: Which would you rather see me publish first, a continuation of Jamie and Emma's story in book 6 of Girls of Summer, or a spin-off novella featuring Maddie and Angie that takes place a few months before the 2015 World Cup?

Note: Both of these GoS projects are currently in the planning stages. For the chance to see sneak peeks of each, and to receive free e-books and audio books, sign up as a Patreon supporter.

The giveaway ends at midnight Pacific time on Sunday, January 19. I'll draw the winners on Monday, 1/20, and send a follow-up message with the names. (First names and last initials only, for anyone concerned about privacy!)

Other Good News: the USWNT's Lesbian Royal Wedding

On the last weekend of 2019, Ali Krieger and Ashlyn Harris of the US Women's National Team got married—TO EACH OTHER—in Miami in one of the poshest lesbian events in recent American history. Naturally, I wrote a blog post about it: "Happy Queer Endings and the Other Royal Wedding." Check it out if you want to read about the inspiration behind the Girls of Summer--and watch embedded videos about the Krieger-Harris wedding, of course!

The US Women are back in action at the end of the month, trying to qualify for this summer's Olympic Games. See the schedule page on the US Soccer website for match information.

I also might have fallen down the Frozen 2 #Elsamaren rabbit hole. Read my blog post about it here: "Radical Acceptance; or, Elsamaren vs. The Von Trapp Family Singers." Spoiler alert: Elsamaren definitely wins.

Queering Emma

In other news, I'm halfway through my queer rewrite of Jane Austen's Emma, which I'm calling Emma: The Nature of a Lady. I'll keep you posted.

If you would like to support my current and future writing through crowdfunding, my Patreon account is up and running. Subscribers receive free copies of every ebook and audio book I release as well as snippets of works in progress.
