🚘 Snow way you're that good of a driver

Talk about a stylish snowperson. ⛄️ Thanks for using #theevergrey tag in this shot from MoPOP, Jill.

What Seattle is talking about

Think you’re better than everyone else when it comes to driving in the snow? So does … everyone else. A poll from PEMCO Mutual Insurance found a majority of Pacific Northwest drivers think they’re more skilled than the average driver. The responses skew along gender lines: 63 percent of Washington men and 39 percent of Washington women agree with that statement. (The Seattle Times)

Seattle’s green image faces a major threat: our rising carbon emissions. Unlike fellow West Coast cities, our per-capita auto emissions have been trending upwards in recent years. This Legislative session, Gov. Jay Inslee and fellow Democrats in Olympia are pushing a clean-fuel standard as a way to turn that trajectory around. (Crosscut)

The recent snowfall should be a blessing for local skiers and snowboarders, but challenges with overcrowding, limited parking, and pass closures have led to major headaches this season. Crystal Mountain, the region’s largest ski area, announced yesterday that it will stop selling walk-up tickets on weekends and holidays in an effort to address the problem. (Q13 Fox)

PCC has pledged to hire half of the workers it needs for its new Central District store from the surrounding neighborhood. It’s attempting to make good on that promise with a series of seven job fairs at the Douglass-Truth Library, starting on Jan. 29. A community meeting will also take place on Feb. 1 at the Garfield Community Center. (Capitol Hill Seattle)

New year, new conversations

We’re starting off the new year by getting nerdy with our friends at Seattle Arts & Lectures. 🤓

This week, we’re raffling off a pair of patron-level tickets to see Adam Davidson, the founder of NPR’s Planet Money podcast, at Benaroya Hall on Jan. 22. Davidson’s new book, “The Passion Economy,” offers new rules for thriving in the 21st century economy and speaks to anyone who wants to make their work their passion. (Don’t we all??)

Patron-level tickets include premium seating and access to a special VIP reception. Go here to enter by tomorrow at noon; we’ll announce the winner in Friday’s newsletter.
