THANK YOU SCHOOL BOARD!

JANUARY IS SCHOOL BOARD RECOGNITION MONTH

School Boards lead so students can achieve; individual board members are citizens who serve children and represent their communities.  It takes strong schools to build a strong community.  School Board Members are accountable to the community and strongly advocate continuous improvement in student learning.

School Board Members spend countless hours of unpaid time working to provide what is best for students and education.  While they wear many hats in the workday world, school board members put on a collective hat when they get down to the business of leading our school district.   They devote time in board meetings, seminars and training sessions to keep abreast of the latest trends in educational leadership, are deeply involved in community activities, and spend many hours in the schools and at extracurricular activities.  These people unselfishly contribute their time and talents towards the advancement of public education.

Their love of learning, concern and caring for students, staff and the community, drive board members’ desire to lead so students can achieve.

Thank you to the following Board Members for your extraordinary dedication, selfless service, leadership, wisdom and commitment to providing the best education to our students.  We are grateful for all that you do for Wayne Local Schools and the Waynesville community.

FUNDRAISER INSPIRATION FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS:

On January 29th,  the Middle School Student Council will host their Second Annual Ice Cream Social as a fundraiser to help maintain wells in South Sudan, so the villagers can have easy access to clean drinking water.  Every year, the 6th graders read the book A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park and last year, the students were so moved by the story that they wanted to help.  Students will pay $3 for a presale ticket which is a donation to the cause and in return, will get a bowl of ice cream in which they can fill with whatever toppings they would like.  On the day of the ice cream social, tickets will go to $5.

The student council is asking for donations to help offset the cost of the ice cream social.  Any donations are appreciated and will be used.  They are looking for ice cream, toppings, and monetary donations that can be deposited online through our link or dropped off at the middle school office.  Items that can be placed into gift baskets will also be accepted (2 liter pops, Gatorade, gum, chips, $5/$10 gift cards, etc.). The gift baskets will be used as an incentive for students who donate more than their ticketed price.  For every dollar over, they will receive a raffle ticket for the basket(s).  Thank you so much for supporting the middle school and a cause that the students are passionate about.   Any questions, contact Mrs. Jessica Harvey at jharvey@wayne-local.com

About the 2020 Census

Project Gunlock is a community safety initiative supported by the Village of Waynesville, Wayne Township, Mary L. Cook Public Library, Waynesville Area Chamber of Commerce, Wayne Local Schools, and endorsed by “The Waynesville Way.”  Collectively, we encourage gun owners to safely secure their firearms and to always be aware of who can access them to prevent accident, theft and misuse.  These organizations and three local businesses – B & B Carryout, Waynesville Pharmacy, and Pat’s Place, are providing free gun locks to secure firearms.

This community-wide initiative is to spread a very important message.  We ask you to pledge to keep our community’s children safe and confident by always safely securing your guns.

Warren County Crisis Text Line:
Crises aren't "9 to 5" happenings. They sometimes come on when it's not easy to pickup a phone and call someone.  But you can text for help at any time.  Chat with a trained person by texting "4hope" to 741741.  That person will help you de-escalate and can offer information about local resources where you can find in-person help if needed.

The Crisis Text Line is always there for you, 24/7.  Just send a message (text 4hope to 741741.

Wayne Local Schools is expanding its services with The Education Connection (TEC) to include a Safety/Bully Tip Line.  When you witness verbal, written, physical, or electronic abuse, speak up!  If students hear or see suspicious behavior from another student, they should not ignore it.  We encourage all students to report any concerns about another student or the safety and security of Wayne Local School District.
Anyone can report anonymously a bullying/safety issue by calling the TEC tip line at (513) 855-4350 option 7 or by going online at waynelocal.tipline.info.   The tip line will also allow you to choose an incident number so that you can receive an update on the status or provide new information for this incident and still remain ANONYMOUS.

The information will be immediately forwarded to the proper authority.  All reports are taken very seriously.
There are posters displayed in all buildings with tip line information to remind students to always adopt the mindset of “if you see something or know something, say something.”

10 NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS FROM YOUR DOCTOR
Each year, Americans’ most popular New Year’s resolutions are more or less the same: get healthy, get orga-nized, save money. But doctors at the American Medical Association (AMA) have some more resolutions for us to follow.
  • Learn your risk for type 2 diabetes: the AMA recommends taking a self-screening test at DoIHavePrediabetes.org to find out if you’re at risk.
  • Be more physically active: remember daily activities count towards your physical activity for the day—walking, cleaning, dancing, and taking the stairs.
  • Know your blood pressure: the AMA suggests visiting LowerYourHBP.org to learn how to manage your blood pressure through diet, exercise, and stress relief.
  • Staying hydrated: a good place to start is to drink more water and less soda.
  • Drink (alcohol) in moderation, if at all: it is recommended for women to consume no more than a drink per day and men no more than two a day.
  • Take antibiotics exactly as prescribed: take medicine as prescribed and only for the person they are prescribed for.
  • Stop using nicotine and tobacco: smoking puts you at risk of lung can-cer, heart disease, & other types of cancer 1-800-QUIT-NOW.
  • Don’t share pain medicine: take them as directed and safely get rid of extra by bringing them to a drug take-back site.
  • Make sure your family is up-to-date on vaccines: this is one of the best ways to prevent disease ranging from the flu to measles.
  • Manage stress: research shows that activities that elicit the “relaxation response” - such as yoga, meditation, and even prayer - can make a big difference.
