Congratulations to all our commissioned lay ministers

Fifty-eight individuals, from Anglican churches in the Diocese of Chichester, were commissioned as lay ministers, by the Bishop of Chichester Dr Martin Warner on Saturday 11th January. The Diocese has now formed the largest group ever to be recognised for the completion of their studies.

The Revd Jayne Prestwood, Officer for Lay Vocation and Ministry, runs the lay ministry training programme. She said: “It is wonderful to mark the start of the Year by commissioning the Authorised Lay Ministers. This is our biggest group to date."

Launch of the Hear Here Project
In January, Together in Sussex launched a new project entitled ‘Hear Here’. Amber Jackson (pictured left), who is also the Diocesan communications assistant, has joined Together in Sussex to co-ordinate this project across Sussex.

The project trains volunteers in basic hearing aid maintenance, who are then are able to offer the community a drop-in clinic, usually held at an existing social event such as a coffee morning.

Hear Here not only allows churches to reach new members of the community, it provides a service to hearing aid users closer to home as many have to travel far for this service, it also drastically takes the pressure off the
NHS to undertake basic maintenance appointments.

The project has already seen great success across the Diocese, with volunteers already being trained (pictured centre).

Thank you to Diane Watts
We also say farewell to Diane Watts (pictured right) who has been crucial in driving Together in Sussex and heading up projects across the Diocese. We know she shall be sorely missed within Church House, Hove and in the wider Diocese. So thank you Diane and prayers for your new venture.

The Lewes Passion Play is still looking for cast members to join their street performance!

Serena, the director comments ‘With casting there is all this excitement and comradery. But there is what is underneath it, the story, the message, the faith. When you are at rehearsals, and see people who aren’t Christians, and when you can sense the presence of God, it’s just amazing’.

If you would like to volunteer to make costumes, be a shoulder, angel or anything else in between contact Serena
