Keeping our promises.

The decision to dissolve the IA Institute was a difficult one but it is now a reality. On November 21st, 2019 the State Attorney's Office in Michigan, where the IA Institute was formed, approved our plan and dissolution was granted

After our announcement on September 17th, we began the work to form a tax-exempt nonprofit so that World IA Day could continue to exist. Remaining funds were transferred to this organization in accordance with IAI Bylaws once the dissolution was approved.

In our last correspondence we made a few promises. We have kept all of them and want to share the outcomes with you. Please do not share this email. We have included a discount code intended only for former members, not the public.

Promise: Refund Membership Dues

We had four refund requests but only approved (and refunded) two. Two were denied because they were outside of the time period in which we agreed to grant a refund.

Promise: Donate Assets

As mentioned above, all remaining funds in the IAI bank account have been donated to World IA Day, Inc.. In the spirit of fiscal transparency, you can see this transaction on World IA Day's Open Collective. Our digital assets are still live. We have updated iainstitute.org to reflect the dissolution and have plans to keep a single page site with the history of the organization and links to World IA Day and other IA-related events and resources.

Promise: IA Conference

All IA Conference assets have been transferred to Kunverj, our former event planning partner. Kunverj founder Vanessa Foss and the amazing team of volunteers are putting together a conference that should not be missed.

The early bird discount runs until February 8th and can be used in conjunction with the code IAI100 to receive an extra $100.00 off registration. It is a really great deal so register today!

Promise: Journal of IA

We have transferred the domain name to Andrea Resmini, who spearheaded this initiative in 2009. While the Journal has not been active for some time, a new website is in development and expected to launch in the near future.

We have had a couple of questions about member data and its usage now that the IA Institute is defunct. Your privacy remains important to us. If you would like us to delete your membership information permanently, please let us know. Our plans for your data are as follows:

  • We will provide the list to Kunverj to cross-check for the conference discount.

  • We have given the list to the World IA Day (WIAD) board of directors. You may receive WIAD or IA related emails from this organization. We respect your privacy and intend to periodically send useful information or upcoming events related to our profession. We will not spam your inbox.

We hope that you will continue to be active in our community and invite you to host or volunteer for World IA Day. The application to become a location organizer will be posted again in June. Be sure to check out worldiaday.org for more information.

Thank you for being a member of the IA Institute.

Kind regards,

Amy Espinosa
