Important Update: If You Used H5P Interactive Video in Your Course in Winter 2019...

... and you require students to receive a "completion" checkmark or a grade for this activity in the Moodle Gradebook, then you will need to add a "submit" screen to your interactive video this semester!

Back in winter 2019, H5P interactive video would require students to watch to the very end of the video to trigger a completion mark to be sent to the Moodle Gradebook. Unfortunately, not all students waited until the very end of the video and would close their activity without knowing that their data was not sent to the Gradebook to be marked as complete or to submit their grade.

To fix this, H5P issued an update to the interactive video content type. This update now has a pop-up screen which prompts students to click a "submit" button to send their completion data to Moodle Gradebook.

What to do:

  • For any videos older than April 2019, with a requirement that students be marked as having completed the activity and/or receive a grade for the activity, this submit screen has to be added manually. It takes less than 30 seconds per video to make this fix.

  • For help in adding this submit screen, watch this video or contact Sarah Wendorf or Alison Frauts who can update your content for you in Moodle. Please include your course code(s) and CRN number(s) in your email.

  • Any videos created since April 2019 do not require this manual fix and require no action from you as they were part of the update :)

Feeling Inspired with Wakelet
Submitted by Melanie Lefebvre

Melanie learned about Wakelet from a podcast she listens to and was inspired to find a way to incorporate it into an assignment that her students could benefit from. Wakelet has a unique feature of showcasing various multimedia in one spot (e.g. Tweets, FlipGrid) in a visually appealing format.

Ideas for Assessment: Rubrics from Colleagues

In December, during our Celebrate Teaching and Learning event,
we set up an Assessment Grab-n-Go table in the Hub. This was an area where colleagues could take home shared assessments from colleagues and customize them for their own courses.

We have now made these available for download - click the button below to browse our sharing library. To download, right click on the resource, then select "Download" from the menu that appears.

Submit your assessments to Mel Young if you would like to add them to our sharing library. Be sure to include your name in your documents so your colleagues can attribute the original author and send a note of thanks!

How to Create Course Header Images Using PowerPoint

Microsoft PowerPoint is a great tool for slideshows and presentations, but did you know it's also an easy-to-use tool for graphic design?

You can create great-looking header images, title blocks, infographics, and more for your course using PowerPoint - all it takes is changing the slide size and exporting your slides as .jpg images!
