Christmas Ski Trip

Dear <<Salutation>>

We are nearly a full week into the new term, and well into the new decade, and it is wonderful to see the boys back at school and settling once more into the routines of the Prep School. It is a busy couple of weeks at school, with Study Skills week, followed by assessments for all Y5-8 boys. At the same time, we are running activities mornings and entry assessments for boys who are looking to gain a place at the school. In addition, most of our clubs and activities are up and running, with a handful of sports fixtures taking place already. In short, it’s great to be back! Please read on for highlights of, and information about, events in the coming weeks.

Y5-8 School Musical - auditions
Mon 20th, Wed 22nd and Thur 23rd January

This year’s school musical is called 2004unk: A Space Odyssey and auditions for the main roles (there are over 30 speaking roles) will be held at lunch time on Monday 20th,  Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd January. There will be a sign-up sheet and excerpts from the script in Prep Reception next week. Any boy interested in auditioning should sign up and prepare using the excerpts. Further information will be given out in Choir rehearsals, so attendance is crucial. Once the cast has been decided, additional rehearsals will be mainly on Mondays and Tuesdays after school (4.30 - 5.30pm in the EMH) and sometimes on Fridays. These won't be for all boys every time and a schedule will be sent out once the auditions have finished.

Curriculum Collapse Day, Friday 24th January
On January 24th it is our annual Curriculum Collapse Day which this year will aim to raise awareness of disabilities. The whole school will be off timetable and immersed in a variety of enriching activities and workshops from sign language and braille to wheelchair sports and guide dogs. For this event, we are looking for some parent helpers from any year group who can assist our Year 3-4 boys on a walk through Bedford town centre, where they will be looking at features of accessibility. Year 4 are going for periods 3 - 4 from 10:15 - 11:55am and then Year 3 in the afternoon for periods 5 - 6 from 1:30 - 2:45pm. If this is something you could help with, please do contact Mrs Carrington or Mr Maitland. Thank you in advance.

Prep School Ski Club
Following the success of the Prep School Ski Club last term, we will be offering another block of 4 lessons this term at a total cost of £76. Sessions will take place at MK Snozone from 5.30pm – 6.30pm. School transport will be provided to and from the Snozone, with boys likely to be back at school at 7.30pm. Boys are also welcome to be collected from MK, should you prefer. Sessions will take place on the dates listed below and every effort will be made to try and avoid clashes with other commitments, but this is not always possible. In the event of a clash, the boys will have to choose which activity they take part in. Unfortunately, as skiing is made on a block booking arrangement, no refunds will be possible. Once the club is full, Mr McGregor will be in touch again, with further information and skiing ability requests for the sessions.

There is an Information Evening for all those going on the Easter Ski trip at 6.30pm on Wednesday 22nd January in the EMH, where Mrs Travis and a rep from Ski Astons will go over all the details you’ll need for the trip, including the travel arrangements, itinerary, kit and insurance. Boys and other children going on the trip are welcome to come. If your party require helmets (the hire for these is included in the trip price) we will be measuring heads that evening too. Please if you have not yet completed your forms, could you bring them along on the 22nd and hand them in to Mrs Travis. We look forward to seeing you then and answering all your questions.

Thank you
