Let's get another year of cycling campaigning started! You'll find below a few invitations for events, cycling and even non-cycling related and we hope to see you there! There'll be a Liffey Cycle Protest on the 26th and our next Public Meeting next Monday 13th.
At Monday's meeting we'll be discussing the public consultation on a Review of Sustainable Mobility Policy as deadline for submissions is 24th January. So, if you want to learn more about the process and chip in your contribution, come along! And if you can't make it to the meeting but would like to make a submission of your own, you'll find all the relevant documents here.
And as a sort of new year present, here's a short film, 'Why We Cycle' (which you can download here) on the Dutch experience of cycling and why their society supports it. We hope it will serve as inspiration to keep advocating for a more cycling friendly community in Dublin and beyond. Enjoy and...

Liffey Cycle Protest, Sunday 26th January
Due to frustration at the ongoing delays to the Liffey Cycle Route we are relaunching our Liffey Cycle protests calling for a trial implementation of the cycle route this year. The protest cycle will start from Grand Canal Square at 11am and we will cycle slowly on a route along the Liffey Quays before finishing back at Grand Canal Square around 12pm.

Love 30 will be holding a meeting on Monday 27th January at 6:30 pm in An Taisce, Tailors' Hall, Back Lane, Dublin 8. All are welcome. We are planning to have an active year supporting and promoting 30 km/h limits in residential estates; in city, town, and village centres; and in the vicinity of schools and places of public assembly. Dublin City Transport SPC Gets Active
As we stated last month, Dublin Cycling Campaign are once again part of Dublin City Council's Transport Strategic Policy Committee (SPC).
This is an important role for cycling advocates in the City, to be part of setting the transport agenda for the future of our City. And of course, the coming years will see increased investment in cycling infrastructure and promotion. We, as cycling advocates, and regular cyclists, need to ensure that that investment is optimised, and used appropriately, to make Dublin a better and safer city for cyclists!
The Traffic and Transport SPC has priorities set out that tie in closely with what we in Dublin Cycling Campaign want to make happen in Dublin, as you will see from the graphic above, taken from a presentation given by the Senior Transportation engineer in Dublin City, Brendan O Brien. The broad goal is to work towards achieving a green, low carbon city, and the main transport related targets are:
- Integrated public transport
- Active travel – cycling and walking
- Reduced congestion
- Smart City infrastructure
- Quality public realm
- Dublin City Council Climate Change Action Plan 2019 - 2024
- Green building and infrastructure
- Reduce pollution
- Biodiversity and green infrastructure
So, we need to support these propose actions and priorities and hopefully help to drive them forward! |

January 2020 Public Meeting - New Departmental Sustainable Mobility Policy
Our first public meeting of 2020 will be on Monday 13th January in the Central Hotel, Exchequer Street at 7.00pm with tea, coffee, and chat from 6.30pm. All are very welcome.
We will be talking about the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport’s public consultation on a Review of Sustainable Mobility Policy. We aim to demystify the departmental process and explain more broadly how to engage with formal consultation processes and how to make your views heard so that we end up with saner transport policies.
The deadline for submissions is Friday 24 January. No matter what your own level of knowledge is around public consultation processes and how transport policy is formulated, you are very welcome to attend on the night and chip in on the discussions.

Get the Message Out There!
This year and beyond, the importance of cycling numbers increasing here in Ireland, and getting more people out of their cars, is understood. This is largely due to the climate challenges coming down the track and the need for me and YOU, as cycling advocates, to get the message out that greater cycling levels means less emissions!
We all know the benefits that increased cycling can bring to our society in terms of improved public health, reduced air and noise pollution, reduced congestion and more liveable streets and better public realm.
So, here is a way that YOU can actively get this message out to your family, friends, workplace, community etc! Cyclist.ie and Dublin Cycling Campaign have secured the rights to 'Why We Cycle', a short 20-minute film on the Dutch experience of cycling and why their society supports it. We fully recommend it. You can simply download it directly from this link. And get out there and use it and spread the word wherever you can! |
