Our Slow Tech programming continues! From September 2019 to July 2022, Studio XX slows down and supports practices exploring our relationship to technologies, to each other, to time, and to the environment.

Floral Sleep | Coral Short

Floral Sleep is a relaxation session and a subtle exploration of sounds emitted by nature, in the spirit of ASMR. Participants are invited to listen to and interact with plant elements for a slow, delicate and dreamy eco-sensual moment.

WORKSHOP | Virtual Reality, 360 video,
and immersive installation

Wednesday January 29, Saturday February 1st, Wednesday February 5, Saturday February 8, Wednesday February 12
2 pm – 5 pm (15 hours in total)
Price: 135$
This workshop aims to introduce the participants to a creative and critical process in 3 steps: creation of 360 video sequences; integration of the 360 sequences into a virtual reality (VR) environment; and setting up an immersive installation in space, either with video or VR, or by combining both.

In this workshop Public Recordings offers ways and means of making that promote shared agency. Over five days, participants will explore practical elements and systems from some of the collective’s recent performance projects through physical practice, sound-making, listening, writing, and reflection.

For more than twenty years, Studio XX has been producing HTMlles, a feminist festival of media arts and digital culture. The festival has established itself as a socially-engaged space, addressing an urgent current issue with each edition. Every two years, HTMlles mobilizes local, national and international artists, theorists, and activists working at the intersection of art and technology, and unfolds in artist-run centres, cultural spaces, and university research laboratories throughout Montreal.

Archiving Studio XX | A community-driven scan-a-thon
Since 1996, Studio XX has accumulated 3684 archival documents in its online Matricules platform, covering the rich history of artists, scholars, and activists that have livened the center for more than 20 years. We are now starting the process of digitizing our print archives and would like to invite you to join us for an afternoon of community-driven archiving.
