Medication Adherence Tip of the Week- Make sure you explain to your patients how long to take their medication. Please ensure your patient knows whether he/she needs to empty the bottle or stop taking medication once one feels better. Remind your patients to refill medication for maintenance medication when their bottle is empty. Ask your patients if medication side effects are bothering them. Communication is key in improving medication adherence.
Pharmacy Update-As we start the new year many plans have made changes to their formularies in order to control costs and provide the best possible therapy options for your patients. While these changes are very important, it is frustrating for providers to know what medication is covered or isn’t. With that in mind, we have updated guides that provide the changes for January 2020. RHCs Excluded from Principal Care Management Benefit in 2020. In 2020, Rural Health Clinics may not bill for Principal Care Management. Principal Care Management (PCM) is a new benefit that Medicare will cover in 2020. It is very similar to the chronic care management (CCM) benefit, except for the fact that patients can qualify for principal care management services with only one chronic condition, whereas CCM services can only be provided to patients with at least two chronic conditions.
