Kansas City’s new Interim City Manager Earnest Rouse will listen to residents’ concerns and discuss today’s most pressing major issues facing city government at the SKCA meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, January 13, in the front building of the South Patrol Police Campus, 9701 Marion Park Dr.
Rouse has served in various administrative and management positions for the city for over 30 years. He has been assistant city manager and director of the General Services Department since 2011 and formerly served as director of the city’s
3-1-1 call center.
He was named local government public administrator of the year in 2009 by the Greater Kansas City Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration.
The city’s Healthy Homes interior residential rental inspection program will be explained at the meeting by Healthy Homes Program Manager Brian Quiason. Approved by city voters in August 2018 as the result of an initiative petition, the program is designed to assure residential rental property in the city is safe and healthy.
Quiason will discuss the program’s results, living conditions it covers and how it interacts with both tenants and landlords and will answer questions from the audience.
A program that just started in the Hickman Mills School District to provide free legal services to struggling families facing evictions, foreclosures, domestic violence or other threats to family stability and safety will be explained by the attorney leading the effort, Garrett Christensen.
Justice in the Schools is a joint project by Legal Aid of Western Missouri, the Local Investment Commission (LINC) and the Hickman Mills School District. It is an expansion of an existing program that has served more than 100 families in the Kansas City Public Schools since 2018.
Light refreshments will be served.
