Animal Triste comes to the prairies for the first time with an impressive history of acclaimed success all over the world, including performances in Montréal, Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver, Brazil, France, Italy, Sweden, the Netherlands, Israel, the United States, and more.
Featuring a superb cast of dancers from Montréal, Toronto, and Vancouver; Montréal-based, guest company, MAYDAY; and choreography by the internationally acclaimed and award winning choreographer, Mélanie Demers.
Mélanie Demers is an artist who believes in the importance
of social engagement. She founded MAYDAY in 2007 and has choreographed twenty works which have been presented in over thirty cities throughout Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Asia. Her work has won over audiences with its originality, intensity, and complexity.
James Gnam has worked with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal, Ballet BC, EDAM dance, Grand Poney, and MAYDAY. He has created, collaborated, and performed in works by Crystal Pite, Twyla Tharp, Mark Morris, Jiri Kylian, Peter Bingham, Thomas Lehman, Lee Su-Feh, Jacques Poulin-Denis, Barak Marshall, and Mélanie Demers and is the artistic director of plastic orchid factory.
Born in France, Léa Noblet Di Ziranaldi works with Mélanie Demers (MAYDAY) and has collaborated in France with Marie Fulconis (la Mazane) with whom she performed at the Avignon Festival. Her professional training includes the Conservatoire de Lyon and the Université Lumière Lyon 2 where she obtained a degree in Performing Arts (theatre and dance) and a Bachelor of Dance degree at the Université du Québec à Montréal.
Brianna Lombardo danced in Toronto with Michael Trent and Matjash Mrozewski, and in Montréal with Isabelle Van Grimde and Jean-Pierre Perreault, before joining the O Vertigo company from 2004 to 2010. Since 2010, she has worked with Mélanie Demers (MAYDAY), Jacques Poulin-Denis (Grand Poney), Frédérick Gravel (Grouped’ArtGravelArtGroup), Caroline Laurin-Beaucage, Martin Messier, and Sasha Ivanochko.
Marc Boivin began his career at Le Groupe de la Place Royale under the directorship of Peter Boneham before joining Ginette Laurin and her company O Vertigo Danse in 1985. Since 1991 he has worked as an independent dancer, performing mainly for Louise Bédard, Sylvain Emard, Jean-Pierre Perreault, Catherine Tardif, Tedd Robinson and since 2007, in some of his own creations.

The Rachel Browne Theatre located in the heart of Winnipeg's Exchange District could be the ideal location for your next event or function. The space is available to rent for dance, theatre and music performances, as well as workshops, lectures, and fundraisers.
Rental space is currently available starting in March 2020! Current WCD subscribers can rent our rehearsal space for just $18.75/hour (regular $25/hour). Minimum three hour rental required.
