When you work in horticulture like we do, you nurture plant life every day. The plants become your friends and your highest priority is to see them grow.

So the last few weeks of watching whole forests destroyed by fires is just heartwrenching. It's beyond words. The loss of so many plants and animals is devastating.  It might take a long time before we really know how bad the impact really is, but one thing is certain. Our plant life needs nurturing more than ever.

We have decided that we would like to help by supporting the WWF's Australian Wildlife and Nature Recovery Fund.  This program will focus on the restoration of forests and damaged wildlife habitat.  We will be donating 20% of all profits from ornamental tree sales until the end of February.

We've have a bit of rain this last week which has been beautiful for the plants (although the dust and hail not so much!), but there's still a lot of summer to go and more dry periods ahead.

The government has been running ads promoting the Target 155L water saving campaign, so you can safely assume that while we are not officially in water restriction stages, it's an indication of where things are heading.  If it does, the first thing to suffer is the garden.

Some gardens fare better than others in the heat, and this all comes down to plant choice, along with some key gardening practices. We've written some tips on how to choose the right plants for Melbourne summers.

Make your garden more resilient this summer
Here's a few examples of our favourite summer plants. Tough as nails but oh so pretty!
Australia Day weekend is a fantastic time to get out and do a few gardening jobs!  We will be open Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 5pm, and Monday from 10am to 4pm.
Not only is it Australia Day, it's also time to celebrate Chinese New Year.  If you are celebrating this weekend, we'd like to wish you a prosperous and happy new year!  新年快乐
