Wait, (Net)Work B*tch Is BACK?!

Hi, hello! It is I, Lily Herman, creator of (Net)Work B*tch and person who has arisen from the digital dead.

Last time we chatted, it was the early summer, and to be honest, I was just burnt out from this newsletter: For some reason, the emails kept getting sent to spam for the vast majority of subscribers (even Mailchimp support didn't know why), I was tired all the time, and I was sort of in a weird place life-wise.

One realization I've made over the past couple of years is that when it comes to side projects like this one, you can't force it. It's okay for things to to end. It's also okay to take some time off and really figure out what you want. This newsletter's been around for almost half a decade (HOLY CRAP, Y'ALL); I was bound to go through some periods of fatigue. And that's all very normal and fine.

So I took that time and now I know the energy I'm bringing into this decade.

What I want in 2020 is to help more women celebrate and promote themselves and each other. The world's pretty damn depressing right now, and it's nice to feel some sunshine, even if it's just once a month in the form of these newsletters.

So before I go through the usual spiel for submissions, a couple of housekeeping things:
  • For those of you who subscribed during my hiatus, a reminder of how this works: You receive two newsletters per month from me. One (this one) is a call for submissions, the second is a very long email with all of the stuff people send me. More on that below, but if you're not sure if something "fits," email me. (Hint: It probably does.)
  • I've been wanting to do a redesign of this newsletter for a while. It'll happen at some point this year! (*yells at self in mirror with "Eye of the Tiger" blasting*) By "redesign," I don't just mean how the newsletter looks but also who it's for. A lot's changed since I started this newsletter in 2015 as a way to keep in touch with a few women in my professional network, and it needs to expand as such.
  • If you want to spread this newsletter around, I'd be forever grateful. Here's the link to do so. The only rule of this newsletter is that you share it with another woman.
  • Please make sure you take this newsletter out of your spam box and other special folders!
And a quick recap of what I've been up to for the past few months:
  • Well, the biggest thing is I had a bit of an existential crisis while cheering on friends during the New York City Marathon and am now completing a pretty wild list of 12 challenges this year and blogging about it. I'm also reading at least 50 books per year for the entirety of the 2020s (more on Goodreads, let's be friends!)
  • If I'm being honest, I'm trying to figure out what's coming up the pike for me professionally. I've got a lot of stuff I love doing and am excited to continue to do (writing angry opinions on the internet, taking on editorial and social media clients, focusing on some other creative projects), and I also want to do new stuff. Email me if we should chat, even if you think it's random or far-fetched.
Anyway, I'm happy to be back, y'all!

Onto Our Normal Programming

The January issue of the (Net)Work B*tch newsletter comes out next Friday, and you should be featured in it!

Here's what I'm looking for (Please submit by Friday, January 17th at 9am EST on the damn dot):
  • Talk about something great that happened to you. Did you get into grad school, snag a super cool job, publish something incredible, etc.? Let me give you a shout out and fabulous hand-selected GIF to celebrate.
  • Created a cool thing or launched a cool thing? Lmk, party people.
  • Know of any great events, conferences, or meetups coming up? Send me links!
  • Want to ask the (Net)Work B*tch network for a hand on something? DO IT.
  • Have a success story from this newsletter and want to share it with the world? Make me cry tears of joy, pls.
Oh, and tell your lady friends to sign up for (Net)Work B*tch! Even getting one woman to sign up is a BIG DEAL. Link here.

How to submit stuff: Email me at lily@lilyherman.com! If we haven't met before, don't be afraid to say hi and introduce yourself.
