“Self-care is giving the world the best of you, instead of what’s left of you.”
-Katie Reed

Principal Corner
Self-care is the word of the month from the Happiness Advantage. It is important to take care of your mind and body each day, so you are able to give your best each day. We are constantly giving and taking care of others and sometimes we must reflect and step back to take a moment for yourself. Please take the time for yourself to create that healthy balance between work on home. Do something amazing for yourself that will fill your bucket!

Thoughts to ponder...
Self-care is simple; it encompasses a few basics that, when added together, make you a happier, more centered person. A person who can function well at work and still have bandwidth for the important stuff at home. A person who can find the right balance. What are the magic ingredients to sanity? There are four main components: lifestyle, nutrition, hygiene and environmental factors.

Admin Intern Report
It was a busy and productive full week back at Westwood! I am looking forward to getting into classrooms over the weeks ahead to observe all the wonderful learning and teaching taking place. Enjoy the weekend everyone! Remember to do something just for you!

Academic Coach Corner

It was an amazing week of getting into so many classes this week. I know that it might feel like the trees get lost betwixt the forest some days, in the chaos of trying to manage it all; but we are making an impact. The level of thought that we put into our lessons, into crafting our environments, and being the caregivers breathes life into our students. We provide them safe spaces to challenge themselves. They do make growth and ALL can find success.

I look forward to our reflective conversations during data retreats- I get the pleasure of hearing how our wonderful teams are working to touch each and every little wildcat, who enters our doors. I encourage you to bring a snack and a mug (coffee, tea, and cocoa will be provided).

Math Aligned Professional Development
On Wednesday, January 15th we will embark on our first elementary aligned professional development opportunity centered around math. This will be a four part professional development opportunity for staff. The following meetings will be held in February, March, and April. I am excited for the training and conversations based on math, and how we move achievement forward with our students. I have been part of the leadership of moving this project forward with elementary schools.

We will be meeting in the Media Center and specialists will be conducting their own meetings that directly relates to their content area. The first portion of the meeting will include self-care and activity

Announcements
POTLUCK RE-SCHEDULED:
The Potluck has been pushed back a week to Thursday, January 23rd. Please look for the sign up sheet in the lounge next week. Thank you

Indoor Recess Announcement
We all know how disruptive announcements about recess can be. We would like to try the practice of sending out an email by 10:15 announcing if recess will be indoors. PLEASE check your EMAIL and reserve from calling the office. The temperature does also fluctuate this time of year, if it is emailed that recess will be indoors at 10:15 and we notice the temperature changes for the later classes to go out, an announcement will be made at that point.

From the Kitchen:
Lunch Counts:
Please make sure that you are using a highlighter when marking your lunch slips and NOT a marker. It is to hard to read the names when they are crossed out with markers.

Field Trips:
If your class will be attending a field trip, please give the kitchen 10 days notice so that they can make sure the food is ordered so they can prepare bag lunches.
